New here! Any low BMIers?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My name is Amy. I am new to the forum and I look forward to reading all of your posts. I have finally decided to seek gastric sleeve surgery and I am in the beginning stages. I have received a refarral from my PCP, have gone to the first info. session, and am approved by my insurance company for surgery. Seeking health has been a life-long journey for me. I exercise regularly, and eat a balanced diet. Unforunately, my body has many auto-immune conditions, including Type I diabetes, chronic hives, hashimotos thyroid, and celiac diease. Worsening blood pressure, asthma, sleep apnea and cholesterol levels are complicated by weight gain. I have worked with a nutrionist for 11 yrs, and I am ready to see the results of my efforts. I hope the gastric sleeve will be a helpful tool for me!

I have a 35 BMI, and would love to know the expereinces of others with a lower BMI. Thanks!

:)

Amy

Hi Amy and welcome. I went into surgery with a BMI of 35.5. I got thru the surgery easier than most of the ladies that were with me that day. I was up walking around w/in 3 hours and never felt sick or had much pain. The only thing really bothering me almost 3 weeks later is being tired. i know it will get better day by day so I just rest a lot and go with the flow.

You will do great!

I've lost 21 lbs in 19 days. Sure beats the diet merry go round.

Hi Amy -- I am 3 week post-op today and I started with a BMI of 35.73 (or something like that). I'm down 22 pounds so far and have not regretted the decision for one second. My weight has played a huge role in my life for as long as I can remember. Up and down the scale, year after year and I just got tired... tired of my weight being a factor in every decision I made. So, I finally did something about it. 3 weeks down, a lifetime to go! Good Luck!

I also had a 35 bmi and I am down 36 lbs in 4 weeks. I also have immune disorders. I won't lie the beginning was a little rough for me and I wondered if this was the right decision but after about two weeks out I am super glad I did!

Everyday gets better.....it's a complete life change ????

Pre surgery I had a BMI of around 36. This week marks 6 months post surgery for me. It has been a truly wonderful experience. I have lost 53 lbs so far. My whole life until surgery I felt like I was battling against weight gain. I fought to stay at the weight I was at...I'd hate to think where I would be had I given up the fight. The surgery was just part of my journey to be healthy. Best of luck to you!!

Welcome Amy.. I had a 33 BMI at surgery time and it's been great. I don't think anything is different from others BMI'ers having the sleeve except possibly slower at losing. BUT.. That also happens to higher BMI'ers. So who knows?

We're all in the same boat with the same struggles and paddling towards the same shore here.. Less weight and healthier life.

I was a 36.2 BMI and was sleeved on march 20th. I had my follow appt yesterday to get staples and drain out. I was very happy with my weight loss 15.1 lbs.

Surgery day weight 293.2

1 week later. 278.1

I actually stepped on the scale twice.

Stay with the program and you will have no problems

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
