What was so miserable about it? Just wondering if it was dirty? Staff issues?

I was there six weeks ago and I enjoyed my stay there as a patient and my traveling companion was comfortable too. As mentioned' date=' it's older in aesthetics but they're updating it even now. I loved all the nurses and the hospital bed was, to me, the most comfortable I've ever had occassion to use. Another poster said the linens were too scratchy for her, but I didn't notice. I liked that it was a full-service facility. They are internationally known for their alternative cancer care program and I understand a lot of Amish folks from the States like to use that facility for a variety of care (though I did not meet any on my trip). Nurses and all the doctors who do rounds were wonderful.[/quote']

I did see some Amish people there. Was wondering what they were doing. I didn't know it was an facility they commonly used. Interesting.

Mostly Staff issues, but they dont have the best technology which made it more difficult and there were holes in the ceiling on rooms on my floor which made it super cold at night. I posted a week or so ago about my experience. I'd link to it here but don't know how

Do you think, in your opinion that they are equipped enough to handle an immediate emergency at Mi doctor? If one was to arise?

I can't say for certain but in MY opinion I wouldn't have felt secure there had something had gone wrong but again that's just my personal opinion

That feeling of security is important. When my heart started acting up in Mexicali they had me on an EKG in minutes and had the ER physician all over it. Then Dr. Campos came in right away even though it was close to midnight. That confirmed what I already knew. I made the right choice.

I couldn't agree mor Amanda! Feeling like you'll be taken care of is a big deal. There was one nurse at MiDoctor who said he'd only been working for 3 days and every time he came into my room He looked wide eye, confused and scared which only made me feel scared lol. It came to the point where I'd ask for the other nurse to come in instead of the new guy.

There is a very modernized hospital in down town Tijuana. It's the Angeles hospital. This site has all the technology to meet the needs of patients if something were to happen. But you know nothing is going to happen right? You will be ok. Hopefully you feel confident in your surgeon to know that he can manage trauma or a complication. If he is not experienced in this then change ASAP. I know my doctor had all the extensive certifications so I was not worried. I was relieved.

Does anyone know how many ORs they have at florence?

Had surgery in florence last June and was there this morning for a visit. Florence is somewhat separate from Oasis even though both hospitals occupy the same building. Since I've never been to Mi Doctor, I can't compare, but I will give some opinions of florence. Talked with Omar and Dr. Illan today, I believe a lot of the changes are due to price and physician privileges.

Cons: Slightly older \ dated. Nursing staff has poor English. Personally, I had some issues getting pain medicine from the floor doctor in the first 24 hours after surgery until Dr. Kelly came to visit me again and helped fixed the issue. Construction outside of my room (hopefully all finished now) made it hard to sleep. Some consent documents were not translated into English. No safe.

Pros: CLEAN! Doctor on staff all night long. Full size bed in the room for your companion as well as a nice eatery on the lobby and close to the Ocean in a somewhat nice area of town. (Bed is a little stiff, but I slept with my SO on it the last night of my stay and was fine.) Lots of privacy including private bathroom with shower. Friendly staff. Pretty court yard for sitting after surgery. Internet connection and tv with some English channels.

Here are some other opinions:

I believe it is...

3 ORs

15 patient rooms.

I believe Oasis of Hope has the other floors of the hospital, and I don't know much about how they operate or how they would transfer care from one hospital to the other. I was comforted to know that Oasis has an ICU and four operating rooms and 60 patient rooms. I don't know if they share the ORs with florence or if they are separate.

I was sleeved at Mi hospital 3 days ago and it was very clean, and safe, never felt otherwise, they have a dentist and med spa on the 2nd floor, the In room safe was used for valuables and I would hope any facility would offer that just as precaution, I had a private room for me and my companion, full bathroom, ...my only draw back with MiHospital was the interstate out the window and the early morning traffic to the USA honking but I was up by then for showering and meds/ dr rounds, etc, so wasn't huge ordeal but very clean and new, the staff all but a very few spoke english and the ones who didnt knew enough to get by, the cleaning staff was constantly cleaning, wifi was great, lots of channels on TV, my bed had a feature to make it inflate for comfort, comfy pillows for a hospital, linens changed like clockwork, 2 cafes (ground floor and 4th floor), did not have noisy nurses at night, top notch medical staff, truly easy in and out process, they are set up as a well oiled machine, all staff used gloves and all staff used universal precautions (I'm in medical as my career , so I look for this stuff) , got enough sleep while there to have walked 2 miles today, found this whole process easy, I do recommend Mi Hospital,,,,,and just my 2 cents!

I am sure both facilities have pros and cons,,, Good luck to all!

Lucky you :) wish I'd had the same experience and could give such a glowing review. What floor were you on?

Lucky you :) wish I'd had the same experience and could give such a glowing review. What floor were you on?

4th floor of Mi hospital, out of the way and little walking traffic.... The 2nd floor has the operating rooms so more people in and out.... And the dentist and medspa are on this floor. Request the 4th floor, has its own cafe, quiet all night, lights off, nurses quiet, was easy and certainly very highly recommended I even heard 3rd floor was quiet also from several others.

But there is no hospital in the world, ( I work in medical) that is quiet 24/7 because a lot needs to get done, constantly people need to vomit, got to bathroom, walk, get medicines, have vitals taken, different hour surgeries.... And this is at major John Hopkins hospitals, Florida Maternity wards to little hospitals in Mexico, true hospitals are not known for " quiet recovery"..... so anyone who wants a quiet recovery at a hospital has a very big thing coming...I would prefer my hospital to have a little noise so I know things are getting done,.... Just saying! :)

And my only worry about a hospital where a lot of Amish go is that they practice a lot of "waiting to see if it will get better homeopathic, religion medicine" and with something like this I would rather not have my staff have a "waiting to see if god will fix it" mentality , being in medical as a nurse has taught me this, I have worked in medical facilities where Amish has frequented and wait and see is not always proper medicine especially when you realize it's not for you and too late to decide, especially when they speak little english, in an emergency would really scare me!

Not saying anything negative about florence Oasis but keep in mind why those principals are for some people and not for others. Why wouldn't Amish just go to any hospital? Why this one in particular? Many reasons is low cost and because most Amish do not have insurance or take public assistance.

Luckily, I am a self paying patient of an elective surgery who has a choice and don t mind spending a few extra bucks.

Now, Not saying they do not respect religious wishes, not opening up that discussion at all , just pointing out a few concerns from my medical background observation thru the years why some go to one but not another. I would hope any hospital would respect all religions/wishes!

Wherever any of us pick, the best to us all!! Just sharing my experience for those trying to evaluate!

Quick tip...But for peace and quiet recovery.... That's is what the hotel after is for, the Marriott has been heaven!!! Do your surgery same day as you arrive on a AM flight and get it out of the way at whatever hospital you choose.... and then relax for 3 days after at hotel... The best way to recover! Instead of back and forth.

Have a great day!!

Maybe they've found a hospital that would respect their religious wishes. I sincerely doubt the hospital forces Amish practices on other patients. I have been to several Catholic Hospitals and I am not Catholic. I have faith that my surgeon will consider my life at all times and do what's necessary to keep me safe.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
