Eating "Normal" 10 months post op

Recommended Posts

I see people always wondering if they will ever eat "normal" again.

Well, here I sit 10 months post-op at T.G.I.Friday's. I ordered the chipotle yucatan salad. This is what's left

Granted I did eat a bit more than I should have, but not so much that I feel the need to expel any.

That makes me happy! Thank you for sharing!

I may have my surgery June/July & we're going to Disney World, Dec 18th for 10 days. I keep wondering what I will be eating by then?? Regular (limited) foods, or am I still going to be eating mush?

Thanks for sharing, OTR. A couple of questions:

* Is that good or bad? (do you miss having as much restriction).

* Is this normal-normal or your new normal, if you know what I mean? I mean before VSG, you probably wouldn't have left the chips on the plate or might have gone for something less healthful, right?

The after pic was great...would love to know what the before looked like--but I'm assuming like a regular sized restaurant salad?

I ate my first little post-op salad yesterday--shredded lettuce with purple cabbage, topped with refried Beans. Very small 6-week-post-op portion, but it was very delicious and satisfying!

Great idea OTR.

I have thought about doing the same thing.. showing before and after shots of food to show how much is consumed. Its food porn and educational as well.

TES, this is my experience, everyone has a different experience or approach. For me is a new normal, eatting the Protein and veggies first. I am at or close enough to goal and would probably have also had a few of the tortilla chips for the crunch. Our bodies tend to crave whats good for us first nowadays, but you do need to train it early.

Good, I still have plenty of restriction. Salads definitely are easier to eat than dense Proteins.

Definitely my new normal. Pre-op there would have been no salad. It would have been calamari followed followed by 2 bowls of zuppa toscan with breadsticks, then steak marsala finished up witha slice of cheesecake. Don't forget 4glasses of peach tea.

The dish was full when it came. Not piled high, but definaty a restaurant portion.

Umm are those appetizers on that other plate OTR??? Hehe :P
Yup, that was my wife's nachos.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
