I had three c-sections, tubal, and my gall bladder removed. I never took pain meds in the hospital or once at home. I assumed my VSG would be the same. I was wrong. For the first time in my life I took morphine, 45 mgs to be exact. And took my pain meds at home the first few days.

Sorry guys but this is a question for the ladies. Mostly the ones that have had c-sections. How did the pain from your sleeve surgery compare to having a c-section?? I'm just trying to figure out what to expect as far as pain wise. I'm also kinda scared of being put under. Never done that either. Thanx

I've never had a c-section but this surgery is miserable the first 12-20 hours then whamo!!! It's like you cross a threshold and you are exponentially better! All surgeries are miserable the first day with pain and anesthesia, but I am 4 days out and would do it again ....

I have had 4 C-Sections, the most recent in 2008, 2010, and 2011.

As you can tell by the responses, everyone is different. I can only say that they were not really painful, just sore once I got home. I did recover much faster from every C-Section than the sleeve. I never took pain meds with the C-Sections once I got home, but did for a week after my sleeve. It was just hard to bend down for me. It felt really tender.

However; even at the worst amount of discomfort I felt, it was always tolerable. Good luck!

Had 2 sections, VGS pain way less!!! It's done laproscopically so it doesn't compare to Abigail open surgery like a c section!!

Looks like you gotta 50/50 chance of the vst being less painful. Lol

Just to clarify....they don't cut your muscles in a C/S, but they spread them apart in the middle Okay, so if its an emergency its more like YANKING them apart But you have a 4-7 inch incision instead of a bunch of 1 inch w the sleeve. And that uterus is continuously cramping down afterward, too I haven't had either, but I'm a nurse midwife and have assisted on hundreds of C/S.

I'm a freak and had no pain with either. The nurses for both procedure were dumbfounded.

My c section they did not cut through my muscle so I'm assuming that made a big difference. And for the sleeve I had single site incision. Never had pain with either.

What! They didnt cut through your muscle? Please explain how they got ur child out? I really wanna kno.

Your rectus muscles go up and down over your abdomen and are held together by thick tissue. Think of gristle on a slab of ribs. In a C/S we cut through this tough tissue, not the muscle, and pull the muscles apart. After the baby is out they hold that tissue back together with only a few stitches. In a Tummy Tuck they pull those muscles back together tighter, giving you more of a waist.

Does that help?

This makes me not want to have kids...

Please don't be scared! The worst part for me was recovering from the 32+ hrs of back labor. The csection pain was slim to none.

Oh yes thank you but its still more invasive than wat they do in a sleeve

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
