Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

Recommended Posts

I've been struggling lately with some knee and hip pain' date=' but trying to run through it (not a good idea!). Took some days off to rest this week, but getting back on my program tomorrow morning at a local 5K. I'm still working my modified Hal Higdon plan for running the half marathon in February. I'm up to 5 miles for my long runs. Also, going to Maui and Lanai to Celebrate my 1 year surgiversary with my sleeve sister in January and hoping to run the Maui Oceanfront 10K. Hope everyone has good runs this weekend![/quote']

Awesome inspiration!

After a two week vacation I'm finally back on the run. It's amazing how fast your endurance can go down. I love reading everyone's post. You're all very motivating and encouraging. Keep up the good work!

I had surgery in December 2012.... Started jogging in March and have lost OVER 123 ponds. I enjoy running now. I ran a 15k in September and have my first 1/2 marathon in December!!

It gets better but repeat days or weeks as you need to. It's definitely a program that you can adjust just for you. You can do it! :)

LOL....I remember my first week....it was like being Water boarded. Hated every step....every gasp of breath. At some point, I realized it was getting a tad bit easier. From that point on, I was hooked.

Last couple of days have been tough. I know it's an endurance building thing, and I've not ran back to back days in over a year. So, the mind game is still winning...but every day that I go I am one step closer to beating it! Have a blessed day everyone!!!

Way to go! It's amazing what you'll be able to accomplish. Have you scheduled your first 5K yet?

Yes in March... And have my eye on the Disneyland one in August... :)

Completed week 5 day 1

Next to last run for Couch to 10k completed -- 55 minutes of running. Friday will be the last day at 60 minutes straight.

Newbies, 14 weeks ago I was one of you. If you are wondering whether you can really manage it, I say you can. It's ok to go slow, even really slow. Speed will come with time. I'm still slow. I only finished 8k in the 55 minutes. Who cares? I'm lapping everyone who is on the couch!

And no, running probably won't make you drop loads of weight. But it does create even more of a calorie deficit and it is so good for your heart, lungs, and mood!

Did my run today but there's a lot of head games going on. I just keep repeating to myself, "never give up, never give up". Even if I never run a while 5k without walking I'm still moving and my body & family will thank me for it when I'm 100 and healthy and alive!!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
