It would be ridiculous for you surgeon to say otherwise!

He's coming from position of caution. As any surgeons would, giving advice based on the information coming second hand from a patient he's never met. of course he is going to give conservative advice.

One word liability ..

I'm not saying this man( the op) is right or wrong but so many different surgeons have different diets.

I to followed a conservative pre and post op diet.

Now if your surgeon won first place for best surgeon in the USA. awesome to you!

But I take exception to words of condemnation to anyone who follows a different diet plan from yours and your doctors .

Laura I agree that diets can differ. But tell me how many diet programs that you've seen have a sandwich (PBJ as well as Cheese) within the first two weeks? Not to mention the chips and chicken nuggets...but bread is NEVER allowed that early out because it can swell and cause leaks.

And for those who feel a staple can't loosen because it's titanium....Ya they probably don't break in half or even stretch, the staples, but your freshly cut tissue does stretch and tear very easily. A leak isn't because staples didn't hold (unless done improperly which is unlikely) it's the tissue pulling away from the suture line and tearing a small opening that is the issue. The other issue is of course infection caused by foods that get stuck in a freshly sutured stomach like corn etc. Which is why we aren't allowed to have that early out. Skins are a real risk to a recently sutured stomach.

Iggy,

where to start...

Well, it's a beautiful Northern California day and I just got back from a walk on the beach with my daughter, so I'm relaxed and happy :)

Yes, I'm glad you agree, diets can differ greatly and that was my point exactly. There are some doctors that release their patients after two weeks for "full" foods, there are even doctors that give NO post op diet. We see it here everyday! Scary stuff I agree.

Do I agree with someone going against doctors orders? No.

What I take exception to, is the judgmental condemnation that people rain upon Others while they are offering "advice". There is no need to say things like "you are not fit for this surgery" or "you have deep problems and will be a failure" or even "my doctor is the best and yours doesn't know squat"

Yes Iggy there are risks as you have graciously and continuously educated "newbies" about.

We are, most of us, here to help, learn and connect with others. Occasionally we get grumpy or tired but I think that is no excuse to talk "down" to others.

Laura

Please note:

The OP stopped immediately once he understood the possible risks.

The issue I have is not with telling the OP that he should not deviate from his physician's orders (that is pretty much a given). The issue I have is with the judgmental and over the top alarmist posts which scared the poor guy half to death. He was pounced on like fresh meat in a zoo. He was probably waiting at any minute to drop dead from his chicken nugget.

And to give him some perspective (and peace of mind) some posts (mine included) informed him that many doctors allow their patients "real" food very soon after surgery. Some of those patients actually chimed in to say yes, they were allowed to eat (yes, believe or not, they were still alive to do so). Do you believe their doctors are quacks? And when people post in absolutes about what is harmful and what is not please realize that is YOUR experience and based on YOUR doctor's orders.

I understand that everybody is just showing concern but there is a way to do that without being an alarmist (and arrogant).

Of course, this is just my opinion....

This post asked for peoples opinions... i gave my honest opinion... u dont have to agree with me... u gave urs.. i dont have to agree with u... but calling ppl alarmists & arrogant because u disagree is just petty! I didnt call him or anyone else quacks or say their stupid (because i dont believe that to b tru)... i simply gave MY OPINION that if u chose to have this surgery & get healthier, y do sumthing that could potentially jeopardize that health... end of story... i posed a question... sumthing to ponder... like it or dont... take it or leave it... but when u post asking for ppls opinions u should be prepared for some answer that arent what u want to hear... hope everyone is having a lovely time with their popcorn n ju ju bees @ VST cinemas... have a lovely evening :-D

Neither did I !! Until yesterday day I went to my profile page and there was one big fat star outta four or five ( can't remember) next to my picture!!

I have it narrowed down to who it could of been because it shows you the latest visitors to your page!

Hehehe they better watch out :P

Oh and the star rating is just wrong !!

Oh hell I go to people's profiles by mistake all the time because I am using my IPAD. Should the stars be colored in or are they just white?

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
