9 months out and I have lost 174 lbs with another 10lbs to get to a normal BMI. I eat 600 calories/less than 20 carbs/more than 64 oz water/more than 60 Protein. I have done this since the begining. At 0-3 months out I had two shakes a day and ate about 1 to 1.5 oz of meat as a meal. From 6 month - 9 months I dropped to one shake a day and eat 2 oz of meat for a meal and I added a snack in there. My calories/carbs/protein have basically stayed the same. I walk 1-5 miles a week for exersise. Thats it.

My doc is telling me that eating at 800 calories and below is not advised once you have a mature sleeve due to the starvation aspect. I'm 7 weeks out and had a follow up today. He and the NUT both advised me to up my current caloric intake of 800-ish calories and work toward 1500.

I feel like this is contrary to what everyone else is doing in this thread, but I don't want to discount him as the expert. Is anyone else eating this much and losing consistently?

Everyone is different.... But personally I believe "starvation mode" is a myth. I have excess fat to be eaten and will not starve or stop losing weight if I am below a certain calorie intake. The starvation myth got stated with one experiment on normal weight people. Some nuts and doctors do believe it exists. Im not saying I am right or they are wrong but there are two sides. I think you should look into it and find out what you believe. :-)

As long as you are over weight and are feeding your body Protein to sustain your muscles you will burn fat not go in starvation mode.

But I'm not a doctor either :P

My Doctor said to eat 600 calories a day until you hit goal. I think you're right to question your doc's advice - 1500 sounds really high.

I think 600 a day is fine in the early months, but really hard to maintain after month 3 or so, especially if you are exercising. Maybe some can do it, but not me. I just focus on eating 5-6 mini meals a day to keep my metabolism in a happy state. As you can see in my post above, I average 1000 calories a day and am still losing.

Hello fellow sleevers.. don't think I'm an over achiever but thought I'd chime in:

Breakfast: coffee, vitamines &

1 egg

Snack: fage 100 calorie non fat greek yogurt

Lunch: either a salad or cottage cheese with berries

Snack: Protein bar 200 cals or less

Dinner: usually chicken 3 oz and veggies & usually a few bites of starch (rice, Pasta, corn)

Snack: usually pumpkin seeds or skinny popcorn

I started out having about:

0-3 mos. = 100-200 Cals

3-6 mos. = 200-300 Cals

6-12 mos. = 300-600 Cals

Now (the past year) I try to stay between 600-900 calories per day

I ocassionally cheat. Have skinny cow ice cream or half a chocolate bar (usually when I'm pmsing :))

I went from a size 14 or 16 in womens, & large or xl tops. Now I'm wearing a size 1 or 3 in juniors and small or xs tops. Never thought this was possible but here I am. The smallest I thought I would ever get was a size 6.. way past that! Yay!

The end :)

Hi,

Wow, your calories were really low the first 6 months. Was that by design or did you have issues with getting more calories in.

Size 1 ??? Wow!! Congratulations!

Yes, I had issues with how much food I could eat at a time and I was always reallly scared of pushing it. I NEVER threw up... it was something that I was affraid of too. I could get maybe 3 tiny spoon fulls of food and that was it, I was done. Now, I can eat more like a normal person so, now it's up to me to make good choices about what I eat exactly. Yeah, I couldn't believe it either when my size 3's starting getting so loose, I was constantly picking them up (not attractive, ha ha!). I'm also pretty short too. Only 5' 2", so as small as I've gotten, I still don't look like a stick figure

My before and nows are in my profile. I started at around 340 and I am 5'7 which is why I was a big loser. Keep starting weight in mind when you see everyone post how much the are losing. 9 more stinkin' lbs to normal and about 20 to my goal.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
