Anyone out there an RN?

I do cardiac progressive care. Since I was restricted on how much I could lift for 6 weeks I took the full 8 weeks and it was great. It gave me a chance to cement new eating habits and I started working out with a trainer at 5 weeks. I went back to work refreshed & renewed. I am 4 months out and have lost 75 pounds!

I'm in Missouri, pediatric ER nurse. I had my sleeve 1/23 so I'm 3 days post op. I was planning on taking 2 wks but with the weight restrictions I will have to take 3-4 wks. Thankfully I have the time built up to take paid LOA. I don't want to go back unless I'm 100% ready:)

I work med/surg 12 hour shifts. I waited 6 weeks as my job required I be able to lift at least 50# before releasing me. I enjoyed being able to just concentrate on my body and learning to eat again. if you can take the time.

Curious of how you all set up time off... Did you do a full LOA/FMLA or did you just schedule a vacation?

I was thinking of scheduling a vacation and letting my manager know of lifting restrictions.

Im an ER nurse doing three 12s so I don't want to over due it.

File FMLA papers. You never know how long you will need. As far as, vacation.. that depends on how your time off is paid. I took 4 weeks off. I thought I could take just 2 weeks, boy... was I wrong!! Way to weak, plus you got to stay hydrated and get used to your new way of eating!! Good luck :)

Yeah, After posting I realized how silly the post was! Already talked to my manager today about a LOA/FMLA and gave her a heads up on restrictions. I am still working on my preop stuff (psych assessment in a week and a half) but I wanna be ready to go!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
