All of my December sleevers...

Recommended Posts

Patty,

I manage a men's clothing store in retail too. I'm so exhausted by the time I get home, I could care less about exercising. I had two knee scopes last year to repair tears and clean up cartilage damage. My knees feel better, but definitely not even 80%. I can't do anything too strenuous. Walking is fine and other low impact things. I've always hated exercising. I am way more active than I was, just not as much as I should be I guess. I know I would lose a lot quicker if I exercised more. Has anyone else had extra skin issues yet? Mine is shrinking down but I'm sure I will hit a point when it's a problem. I'm more concerned about that corrective surgery than the sleeve surgery.

I applaud all of you who have lost so much in such a short time... it probably why I've stopped popping in here as much... I am not making the progress you guys are... almost 8 months out and only 60 lbs gone...I have lost 111 lbs from my highest weight... so I guess that's something ... my fibromyalgia pain is back... I broke up with my boyfriend of 5 years... I hate to sound so down but its where I am right now... DOWN...while I'm not gaining any weight' date=' I have to fight for every ounce I lose... I started lifting weights in addition to walking 2 miles 4 days a week... nothing is helping accelerate the weight loss... other than living on shakes, what's a girl to do?

nevertheless, I am happy for you guys... you're the success stories! me... not so much...,[/quote']

Just realize most of us count over all weight loss not just after surgery. If I did I'm only 64 lbs down. It depends on where you start. My surgeon said not to worry about the numbers but about three life style change. He is proud of my loss. You should be proud of yours!

I've been stuck for months! I am still down only 73 lbs. I have started going to the gym 4 days a week and I hope it will help me start up again. I can eat more now but I try not to. It is no where near what I used to be able to eat and I don't ever go over 1200 cal. a day and no one gets fat on that. I have to just keep going!

Guys and gals I need encouragement. I fell off the wagon...high stress of ending a six year relationship, changing jobs after four years, a best friend going off to rehab (shockingly-was unaware of the abuse), a brother going wild, & a few other things just got the best of me. I have sat down and read my book again from the Dr. I've made a food list again and got my mind focused. Please tell me how you jump started if you started slacking. I haven't lost any in a bit. Only down 70 (have thyroid problems so I am a slow loser, but I should have more progress). Ideas of a food plan to jump start things again...I've been looking for divas back to basics thing, but I can't find it. Any other encouragement or things that might help are appreciated. Congrats to everyone!!!

P.S. still walking several times a week...mainly need to focus on food I think. ????

I think at some point everyone needs to "re group." For some people, it hasn't happened, yet, but it might happen when they get to the weight that they want to maintain. For a lot of us, falling off the wagon is nothing new...and getting back on is nothing new, either. We just have to "just keep swimming."

I am at 175.8, and I don't really have a firm goal weight (my doctor did not specify one either), my size 14 clothes are starting to be too loose and I can feel that I am about to gear down to a size 12. I would like to hit 150 next a re-evaluate, and after a long stall, I have lost a pound and a half this week. Now I am at the beach and having cucumbers, tomatoes, grouper, and bananas for lunch YUM! I find that I am not stressed at all about numbers, just happy to be slowly heading in the right direction. I am not exercising as I should, and that is my next goal now that we are back in a routine as a family - starting back on walking and yoga this week :)

Everyone has had such success! So inspiring to read your stories and your challenges, too...

It's been a long time, but I had to come back for an update.

Pre surgery: 266.6

Day of: 251

Current: 172

Best part is that pre surgery I had shrunk to 5'5.5", but now I am back to 5'7". Feels great.

I also shrunk down to 5'5'' from 5'7'' but have only gone back up an inch funky!

I'm down 105. Weight-loss has definitely slowed . was 3 pounds a week every week now 1 pounds a week on 800 calories a day. I have started uping my exercise and have noticed a jump in my loss. I was size 22-24 pants and am now a size 10-12 depending on the pants. Tops medium from 3x. I have about 30 pounds to go thats my personal goal, my doctor never set a goal for me. To be normal BMI I have to weight 148-168. I have chosen to make 150 my goal. Im very happy with my results. I just want to be done with the losing weight part.

I come here every couple of weeks to check in and now I need some support. I was sleeved 12-27-12. Before surgery I lost quite a bit of weight. Was 297 started running dropped to 258, day of surgery I was 248 now I am 197. All in all seems like a lot but only 50lbs since surgery. I need help figuring out why I keep getting stuck. I know everyone says don't look at others, were all different, but this is getting depressing. I think it might be stress and I have relocated so I don't have my doctor anymore. Maybe some ideas for menu's? 800 to 900 calories? I feel lost.

Slimforme, Boy you have a lot going on! Just because we had surgery doesn't exempt us from the struggles in life that effect weight loss. Are you getting a good nights sleep? Was it your idea to end the relationship? Family and friends fighting addiction is very stressfull. Thank God they are getting help they need. Bottom line is refocus what are you doing differently? Are you grazing? When you stop a refocus you will be able to answer the questions I have asked and "need no response to". I posed the questions for you. When we step back and are honest with ourselves we can see what we are doing that is destructful in our lives. When we figure out what we can answer why! You know what your doing if you sit down and write it down, you'll understand why. Maybe subconsciously your sabotaging yourself. Do you believe your worthy of feeling healthy and looking healthy? If you answered yes then stop and take the time, to ask yourself why you are doing what your doing. You are the one that has to answer the questions. Hope this helps...you can also go to Pinterest and put in gastric sleeve and you will come up with 1000's of ideas for recipes and exercise and pitfalls. Praying you feel better about yourself soon!

Went to my bariatric surgeon yesterday for my check up. (was sleeved on 12/17) According to his scale I was only down 50 pounds. Time to regroup. He wants me doing 45 minutes/cardio/day, and weightlifting every other day. arggg. I guess I have to do it if I want results, because I'm not doing so well, especially these last few months. I'll keep you all posted on my results, and I have a goal to only weigh myself twice/day. I usually weigh myself a gazillion times/day which is obsessive. Thanks for all your support.

I may have said this in an earlier post, but it bears repeating here. I went to an exercise doctor (a PhD, not an MD, but he works with athletes...) He told me that the largest muscles in our bodies are in our upper legs. Muscles burn more calories when we are at rest, so if you find that you don't have time to lift weights every other day, you should focus on your legs. He suggested that I do weights only once a week but spend an hour doing them and doing as many reps as possible to cause muscle "exhaustion." I have not done this, but I do focus on those upper legs with presses, etc and it seems to have helped (in addition to the cardio)...Also, if you don't have a pedometer, yet, I would encourage you to get one. They talk about the 10,000 steps a day goal everywhere in the media and this is not a joke. When I started using a fitbit pedometer, I was surprised at how little I was moving IF I stayed at home all day with my kids. Obviously, right after surgery, I wasn't fit enough to do 10,000 steps without feeling serious exhaustion, but I worked up to it and can do more than that now on a good day. It's great that your dr. has specified 45 minutes of cardio, but I think keeping track of your steps is more useful. A mile run burns the same calories as a mile walked. Running is more efficient in terms of time, but for those of us who have been heavy, we need to be careful of our knees, hips and feet. If we injure ourselves to be more "efficient," it may not pay off to exercise that way.

Hi all,

I just had to share a funny NSV this morning.

I'm sitting in my desk chair at work and realize my feet are dangling like a little kid and I'm not siting all the way back in my chair....I had to go find the lever to change the depth of the seat since I didn't need all that extra room for my butt anymore !!!!

That was a fun one!

Take care,

Kristin

(Down 92 pounds from pre lap band weight in 2006 and 69 pounds from sleeve revision. In December.)

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
