I broke my stall by saying the heck with it and not focusing on a Protein number and trying different things and reducing my calories. I lost 7 pounds last week, can't wait to see what this week brings

Not in a stall but just slow.. Ugg Its always right before a goal.. Waiting patiently

I learned yesterday I have no restrictions (Not good) I have feared bread for the last 4 months and now not so much. I had a Smash Burger Yesterday (ate the whole thing in 2.5 sessions) It was over 1,000 calories for the one I chose don't get me wrong there was a slight side effect. (the ability to drink Water behind it) It had been over an hour and I went to drink water and it was as though I ate a house I became over filled very fast, I guess the bread from the burger was still inside me and caused serious bloating. (Not a great feeling) I won't lie that was enough to keep me from wanting bread again any time soon but wow the fact that the bread did not bother me alone scares me since I feel breads pastas and rice are the main reason I became this big to begin with. I am strong, I know I had a moment I am over it and today back on track. I wont let the devil win I came to far and been through to much to allow those Bad foods back into my life. I will beat this weight no matter what! :)

Hi December Team,

I havent been here in a while and i was really down on myself because I lost sight of how much work it will take to reach my goal and began eating whatever, and not working out as much as I should.

But since I cam back to our December page I am motivated again to work as hard as i did at the beginning of this surgery!

The goal I'm reaching for now is to be under 200 by 4/30/13

I weight:

4/6/13- 207 lbs

Goals:

4/30/13 - 199-195lbs

5/30/13- 186-180lbs

6/30/13- 175-170lbs

7/30/13- 165-160lbs

Big Goal:

10/19/13(my birthday)- 145-140lbs

Thanks for all the motivation team!!!

I haven't been on in the last month, but so much has changed. Down 52 lb 12/19/12. I started walking two miles almost everyday and I'm now doing a squat challenge. I'm about to start the breakup process...from a five year relationship. It's not the weight, I am just so unhappy where I am. That being said I am no longer hungry at all. I don't know of it is from exercise or my nerves??? Ideas!? Also my hair is so thin now I loose so much daily....what do you all use to help with this issue. This may sound like a sad or negative post, but it isn't. I'm so proud of my progress, but I'm just a little worried about my hair and appetite. Also all you walkers....how many miles do you do and how often...what's you normal loss pattern? I'm wondering if I should walk more miles daily. THANKS Y'ALL!

Jalese -- You inspired me to set some realistic goals for myself! I had my surgery 12/26 and have lost 42 pounds since the surgery, 62 pounds since I started the journey. I keep a journal but had not really set goals. I am also putting the scale away so I can weigh myself every 2 weeks and quit stressing over the numbers. Thanks for the encouragement!

Slimforme -- I use 1 Biotin and 1 Skin, hair & Nails plus 2 Centrum vitamin/mineral tablets and 2 calcium chews per day, hopefully to prevent some of the Hair loss. I also take 2 Vitamin D each day. So far, I haven't had a lot of loss (surgery 12/26). Hope this helps!

I have been taking Super Biotin 6000 mcg by GNC since January. I still have hair loss...most noticeably in my temple areas of my forehead...like where men often lose their hair. I don't know that there is anything you can do to prevent the loss. All we have control over is getting the appropriate nutrition so that our bodies will re-grow hair later.

Also, I lost a toenail. I don't remember hurting the toe, but the nail turned black and fell off. That part isn't strange, but I can't see any signs of growth (of a new nail)....

I didn't start to lose my hair until I decreased my Protein about 3 weeks ago. I asked my nutritionist about it and she said hair was pure protein and my body was revolting because it was not getting enough. Not sure if that is why, but good information.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
