Carlene, there's a movie coming out about firefighters who pose as Gay to receive same-sex partner benefits offered by their company. It's a comedy but I forget who stars in it. It looks pretty hilarious though.

I agree with you, and I think many of the current laws need to be revised to be more inclusive of people in special circumstances.

All it would take is to stop trying to define family so narrowly.

Also, as long as the lower middle-class, the group that is most hurt by lack of health insurance/coverage can be convinced that government provided health-care is an evil socialist plot to take away our freedom, we will have these predicaments.

What would be worse: No medical coverage or limited choice of doctors?

When I read the news this morning about that evangelical pastor soliciting male prositutes, at first I thought it was funny and I couldn't stop laughing. But then, I started getting really really angry.

This person is responsiblle for 30 million people thinking being Gay is a sin. He is powerful. Very powerful. He has probably influenced many people's opinions and maybe even some laws.

This is the kind of thing that infuriates me so much. The blatent hypocrasy that runs rampant through these evangelical organizations.

When will these people start WAKING UP and realizing that being Gay is a natural, normal human sexual behavior for some people?

I know that even when their very own spiritual leader participates in Gay activity, it will never change their mind, never make them question for an instant that it's still a "sin." They'll never think "gee, maybe if even this guy does it, it could be so prevelant in the population that it might a normal variation of human sexual behavior." No, that would require too much actual thought.

I wonder if they think that dolphins that engage in Gay sex are also an "aberration"? Or do they realize that it's a normal part of sexual behavior within the animal kingdom? Of course many other animals also engage in Gay behavior. The animal kingdom includes human beings... or wait! I forgot! Alot of these people don't believe in science.

I hope this guy gets everything that's coming to him.

A lot of people only believe in science when it comes to weapons. The USA has the best weapons in the world. Is it because we pray to Jesus better (or more) than other countries do or because of science?

Some also believe in science when it comes to TV, PC's, Video Games, Medicine (well not always medicine) and communications.

2. Christians professing to follow Jesus but then judging and putting down others: hypocritical

Yes, maybe we are judging, but only are they being judged through the word of God.

Marriage is only santified through God.

Carol, what exactly is it about the consitution that you don't understand? Church (God) and state are seperate.

Why is this such a difficult concept to grasp?

People's belief in God should not inform our laws. There are people in the US who believe in different dieties than the one discussed in the bible, and there are people who don't believe in God.

Civil union is a civil right, and one that everyone is entitled to by being a US citizen.

Every adult human, who has the ability of consent, should have the right to form a civil union with whoever they want. It has nothing to do with religion whatsoever.

No one has the right to let their God inform our legislature.

PERIOD.

There are two kinds of marriage - civil and religious. The government controls both, however, since they require people to take out a marriage license and in the case of a same sex couple, no license will be issued. And a marriage performed without a license is not legal. I have a problem with this.

My church will never perform or recognize same sex marriage, and that's okay. They are a church, not the state. If you want to belong to my church and you are a gay couple, that's just too bad. Go find one that accepts your lifestyle.

The government, on the other hand, does not get to interpret the Bible, the Koran, the Torah, or the How To Be A Buddhist Handbook. Neither the state of Texas nor the US government can require that I wear a veil over my face in public, although traditional Muslims may think I should. They can't make me keep a Kosher kitchen, even though conservative Jews might feel that would be a good thing.

Before you vote to make religious beliefs into law, remember that yours isn't the only religion around. And the fact that you think yours is the only "right" one is immaterial. Everyone else believes theirs is, too.

And you think I'm heartless. No I dont believe it is right, and I do not condone it, but many of my best friends here are gay and I LOVE LOVE THEM! And I want to see them happy. I am glad NJ voted this in, I dont think that every state is ready for this yet but a nice Northern state can definately not only get away with it, but most likely set off a revolution. I want to see my friends happy and if that makes them happy, I want to see it. My church never turned down several "engaged" gay couples, but instead accepted them and loved them all the same. No the Bible does not condone this lifestyle, but the Bible also says to LOVE and not Judge others

I have a personal relationship with God. It is the most important thing in my life.

I was a good person who wouldn't rob you or rape you before I got religion. I'm still a good person who wouldn't rob or rape you. My morals came from my parents.

I advocate gay marriage and gay adoption.

I believe in love.

God is love.

Very good point.

I get tired of those who think you must have some form of God in your life to be a good and moral person. Heck, look at the headlines today for an example.

I love the Bible.

I don't take the Bible literally.

I believe I share my beliefs with the silent majority of Christians in this country.

Jodie...I'm really confused as to why you quoted my previous post. I am absolutely in favor of legalizing same sex marriages and I think you agree. Is that not correct?

Me, too Betsy....only I'm not very "silent". Definitely not silent. Not even quiet. But still a Christian.

You know there are lots of people on this forum that voice their opionion on this issue. I am no different than any one else.

For people that think God has His place in only certain areas, I can't say that anyone can only use and put Him in the places they think He should be assigned too. I said it before and will say it again He is in every part of our daily lives, like it or not.

If you do not believe in God, then it certainly has no affect on your life anyway.

Same sex marriage is wonderful if you are not trying to live in the eyes of God, otherwise if you are, I think your faith in Him should be reiterated.

Compassion without Compromise

I don't believe God should be assigned to certain areas.

My relationship with God is so profound that it can bring me to tears.

I am an advocate for gay marriage.

We don't do the assigning. Do we?

We absolutely do not, Leatha. At least I don't believe we do. Common sense tells me that no one would CHOOSE to be a member of a persecuted minority.

Edited to add...

Think about this....if you are hetrosexual, did you choose to be so? Or were you born that way? Why is it people think gay individuals have a choice, but straight people don't?

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
