What exercise do you do?

I'm thinking about getting a treadmill. I dunno. I had one a few years ago though and ended up selling it. I'm trying to think of something I'll actually stick to.

I'm an introvert with self esteem issues so at least until I lose like 60 lbs, you're not gonna see me in a gym. I like walking until it gets super hot.

Don't waste your money. It will end up being a very expensive clothes dryer. Start a walking program daily and stick with it. When it is hot you just have to remember to hydrate. You haven't had your surgery yet so when you start to lose you may enjoy walking more.

I love curves, no men allowed and not a lot of skinny women. It's a great place to get started. If I have to do it at home I won't do it, I have to go somewhere to be accountable.

I do deep Water aerobics three times a week and have a personal trainer two days.

I dance and lift weights at a club most days. I also do DVDs at home on super busy days or the Wii fit/fit plus. Usually low impact aerobics with weights. Treadmills bore me to tears!

I bought a treadmill for 449 from Canadian Tire (tempo 632T) I'm sure it will be on sale at Christmas. Needless to say I don't run.... I ended up talking with a trainer and agreeing to do 3 work outs a week, at whatever I was comfortable with (treadmill or class I like at the gym etc)... I increased it to 4 times a week shortly after that. My nutritionist mentioned an app called 5k runner to me, I started that, and I've been addicted ever since... I have never ran in my life and I am running 20 minutes straight as of right now. I love not having ot waste time driving back and forth to the gym. I have a fan right in front of my treadmill and it's in the rec room downstairs where it's a bit cooler. I LOVE it. It's very convenient, I can wear what I want and not feel self conscious, and I can sweat like a pig without caring if anyone is watching me. I will be honest, until I set that contract I found it difficult to get my butt on there some days, but I kept a log of what I did and emailed them to my "trainer" who I only met once since I didnt really need his help. But once I started using 5k runner! I'm in love... after 8 weeks or so, you'll be running 5k!

I run three times a week and try to walk my dog daily. I also like to do random athletic stuff. Last night I went indoor rock climbing and I had a blast!!! So much fun. And... This Thursday I'm taking a pole dancing class. A little crazy, but I gotta keep things exciting and new. ;)

Have you looked at a Planet Fitness gym? The one I go to has a variety of people sizes and is an official "Judgement Free" zone. For me, the hardest part of going to the gym is getting in my car. No excuses.

I go to a small gym that is owned and operated by a church. Everyone must be fully covered and appropriately attired! :blink: Lots of "normal" bodies here and quite a few larger than normal ones too.

  • walking (first month post-op)
  • water aerobics (month post-op to about 2 months)
  • treadmill & recumbent bike (2-3 months)
  • elliptical & weight lifting (currently go 4x a week, do 30 minutes on elliptical and 45 minutes weight lifting)
  • yoga (just starting)
  • kickboxing- love it! but the instructor got hurt and they canceled the class for now
  • Zumba- just not my thing (I think it's still lack of confidence that my body can really move in those ways!)

After I was 3 months out and cleared for exercise, I started with the Biggest Loser Power Sculpt DVD every second day, and using an elliptical on the alternating days for 40 minutes. I was surprised how much exercise my body could handle before getting tired and how easy the DVD became after 3 weeks. I am now using Jillian Michaels No More Trouble Zones on the alternating days because it is so much harder!

To keep myself motivated, I signed up for fitspiration on Facebook, so I see their post in my newsfeed. I have found now that I'm in a routine and have made it a priority, I don't have as much internal conflict about working out. You never regret a workout and when I'm done I don't guilt myself and think "I should have worked out".

Doc said nothing but walking for first month; then I was free to do whatever. I was just in such poor physical shape that I couldn't have possibly done more than I did in the beginning.

This is my current schedule on Mondays,Wednesdays and Fridays I do Bodies in Motion with Gilad which usually entails a little cardio,weigh lifting and ab work for 30 min. Later I walk two miles and If I'm up to it I go to the park and walk/run 8 laps.On Tuesdays and Thursdays I do Bodies in Motion,walk two miles and attend a Zumba class for an hour. Next year I'm going to incorporate Muay Thai boxing into my schedule.

I have become a gym rat and go 4-5 times a week ( I can't even believe I just typed that). I was JUST like you. Hated going to the gym. HATED IT. For me, it was finding a gym where I was comfortable and I was lucky to find that.

BUT, there are lot of effective home workouts if you're motivated to do them. I had good success with Leslie Sansone walking DVD's. I know, sounds really silly...a walking DVD but she's just this side of annoying and it's a good workout (especially if you shoot for 3 miles or more). I did the Wii workouts and they were ok, but I just found myself futzing with the stupid remote holder on my leg because my moves weren't registering. I sometimes had to use poor form for them to register.

The Biggest Loser workouts are great. I loved seeing people who looked like me doing the workouts.

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

      Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
