Help! I'm Starving!

Recommended Posts

At this point, only 5 days out of my 2 week pre-op diet, my arm is looking quite tasty!!!! LOL Were any of you really hungry?? What did you do besides drink Water to curb the hunger? I'm drinking water as I type. I've lost 5.5 lbs so far.. So almost a lb a day doing the diet- Not too shabby and going to the gym. Only went twice so far this week. Getting my sleeve on 12/14. I named it Sleevey B. I'm becoming delirious... LOL

You didn't mention the details of your pre-op diet, but you might see what you can do to maximize satisfaction within the requirements of your plan. If you're on liquids only, see if you can't find a Protein Shake you can enjoy - Protein will help keep your blood sugar level and reduce cravings. If you're just watching carbs, focus on dense protein (like chicken breast), and see if you can boost volume with a large salad. For in-between hunger, water's a great idea, try tea and other unsweetened beverages for variety. I make a sugar free "russian tea" kind of thing with crystal light orange, a sugar free tea/lemonade mixture, and cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg, made with hot Water. Can you have sugar free Jello?

Hang in there, the pre-op diet is really hard for all of us. You can do it!

Pre-op diet is not fun but it works. I lost 12 pounds in 14 days on it. When I was weighed in before my surgery I couldn't believe how much I lost. That was almost a 5% body weight loss without a sleeve

Good question... I can have 3 Protein Shakes per day and a small low cal meal for dinner such as a Lean Cuisine or a Smart One's meal. I've been drinking AT LEAST 64 oz of water w/ Decaf tea... Weell I have been adding vanilla extract and some cinnamo to my shakes.. I do not ever want to have these things again!!! LOL!!!! I actually really loved the shakes before. Ohwell It is what it is- I'll just keep focused. I'm sure after a few more days, the stomach growling will go away.

talk to you Dr's office. My dr's office had an alternate diet that they moved me to which was basically a no/low carb high protien diet. chicken, steak, pork, eggs, cheese... all allowed. It worked fine, I lost weight and had no complications with surgery.

I agree, LeahMae, about the shakes. I didn't mind them before, thought they were kind of good. Now they are too sweet and oh so hard to get down. I am on a preop diet also. Right now I don't have a date but we are doing two shakes a day and one substitute meal, like Healthy Choice, etc., it has to be -300 cals and are actually really good. When I get my date, I'll have to switch to all shakes and I don't want them. There is the high Protein chicken broth that I think I am going to ask if I can have that instead. Warm and non-sweet will be far better to swallow!

Good luck to all of us!

When I was pre-op I often blended Protein Shakes with ice to make something that was both more satisfying and higher volume. A chocolate shake might also blend well with ice and chilled coffee, or instant coffee. I had that with a green salad and it kept me really full at lunch.< /p>

As far as the healthy choice type frozen meals go, they tend to be pretty low in Protein, because protein's the most expensive ingredient. Do you have to use a preportioned meal, or could you have x ounces of grilled chicken breast and some veggies / green salad? It might be worth a call to your surgeon's office.

Another adjustment I made on the shakes that you might try is making them warm and adding a bit of salt to cut the taste of the artificial sweetener. Sounds weird, but it enhances the flavor - if you're baking you put salt in cakes and Cookies for much the same reason. So, I make a morning hot cocoa with heated almond milk, 2 T unsweetened cocoa powder, a generous dash of salt, and a scoop of chocolate Protein Powder. Sometimes I thin that with hot Water or coffee.

Hope that helps!!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
