Should I Get A Tummy Tuck If I Dont Have Kids Yet?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My insurance will cover part of a Tummy Tuck to remove extra skin after I have surgery. My surgery is next month. However, I don't has kids yet! And one day I want to have kids. Would it be wise to get a tummy tuck if one day it will get stretched out again?

I guess what I mean to ask is. Even with a pregnancy will a pregnancy stretch out my skin a lot? Should I just wait until a after I have kids who knows when to then get a Tummy Tuck?

My daughter in law recently checked into a Tummy Tuck. The doctor told her to wait until after she was finished having children to get that surgery.

I would if my skin bothered me too much, like rubbing or redness... but if for vanity I would wait :)

I hope you got BCBS because that is good to know that they will cover part of it at least!!! I will seek a Tummy Tuck maybe a year after this surgery. I watched a lady on UTube who had the sleeve and she had a lot of excess skin in the stomach. A year later, she had the tummy tuck and her tummy is sooo different and flat. It is worth having. I am sure hers were medically necessary too. It will be better to wait until you have kids to get it done. I was small when I had my children. My first child I weighted 130 and went back to 130 with a flat stomach. however, I had her naturally. My son 7 years later, I had a csection and no more flat tummy for me.EWWWW!!! lol Good luck with whatever you decide.

I spoke to a plastic surgeon about that, I met him socially so not a clinical assessment but spoke to him about needing to get skin removed in that area and thinking I should wait til I was sure I wasnt going to have kids. He suggested that I could still get a pannilectomy done and a Tummy Tuck after I was sure about the kids...just my 2c

I agree with what Aussiegirl said - panniculectomy if you want kids, abdominoplasty if you don't.

Panniculectomy is just to remove excess skin.

Abdominoplasty removes excess skin and also tightens the abdominal muscles.

Panniculectomy is usually covered by insurance.

Abdominoplasty is usually NOT covered by insurance.

So your insurance saying they will pay for part of it is probably saying they will pay for the fee of a panniculectomy and the extra $ for the abdominoplasty portion is considered cosmetic and would be out of your pocket.

Abdominoplasty will give a better cosmetic result, but you can also tighten your own muscles with exercise.

If you plan to get pregnant, though, I'd hold off on either surgery. Make sure you're going to be at a stable weight before you go under the knife again... cuz recovery time for either one of those surgeries is 6-8 weeks - would you really want to go through that twice because you had kids after the first surgery? Or pay for it twice, for that matter?

I would wait because if you end up having a c section more than likely you will have an apron!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
