Is Anyone Afraid Of Losing Too Much Weight?

I'm 5'6" and I would only be concerned if I went below 120. Since I've been at the same weight for a while now I don't think that's going to happen.

Very worried about losing too much and fearful of not losing enough. Some days think that I am crazy. :) I have an ideal weight for myself which is not what my doctor has listed in my chart. I have no desire to be stick thin. Fear of the post weight loss lollypop look keeps me in a state of terror.

I worry about the same thing Sleeve date October 19. Iol I already have a Big Head. I don't want to be a Pez Head.

I have lose 85lb and my wife has express that she would like for me to stay at my current weight but I'm sure I will lose another 30-40lb.

Do what makes you Happy!

I've already established the fact that I'm an expert at gaining and/or keeping weight on. If I get too low, I know about 534,692 ways to level it off... ;)

Ha, ha. Sounds like a dream but some of us "experienced" sleevers whispered during our SoCal support group get together about how to stop losing weight. Seriously.

I lost too much weight and needed to put back on weight. I looked sickly for my height/weight. I am still 10 lbs below surgeons goal weight for me. Sure, I looked good in clothes but I missed some of my curves. Yes, I said it.

So, yes you know a million ways to gain back weight...but consider this...do you know how to maintain and not yo-yo diet for the rest of your life? Gain 5 lbs, lose 5 lbs and so on. Sound familiar?

My body was extra stubborn too. I think some Weight loss clinics have wings named in my honor due to my repeat visits. Same with TV ads. Buildings built in my name for the money I invested.

During maintenance you learn how to balance calories. It is a mind game. Will I gain back all my weight? Changing the mind to not count every calorie/carb that enters your body. Will fear overcome your need for control? When is your weight loss enough? When your surgeon says it is? When your body says it is? When you say it is? What is the right weight? Sounds like a dream but it can be scary so prepare yourself as you approach goal weight. I have seen a few VST members go overboard and go way below a normal BMI weight. IMO this is not physical but mental issue. We need support throughout the entire process, even after goal.

My biggest fear (besides death) is going through this and not losing at all. I've never considered losing too much. Didn't even think it was a possibility. Hmmmm, something else to think about.

I would just like to say for the record that my official answer to this thread is a big helllll no. Clearly I'm a slower loser than I thought I'd be and I suspect that is because my tummy is not afraid of anything - no behavior modification going on in this head of mine. I suck!

Yes, I'm concerned about losing too much. I have a failed lap band and my Dr. wants me to be converted to the sleeve. I have another 50 Lbs to go before reaching MY goal. But, on the other hand. I also have a stubborn body that doesn't wake up after hitting a plateau.

I am concered about both--not losing enough/losing too much. When i was in my early 20's i got down to 128lb and at 5'3" that should be an ok weight. However, i looked ridiculously thin and emaciated. Looking back at photos i looked gross. My goal is about 130-135lb and i really hope i will look healthy and not ill.

I thought I was but my body got to 180 and refused to budge any lower. I had to fight and workout like a madwoman at 180 to get to 175 and I am fighting with all my might to get to 170. Just sayin that your body knows when to stop losing wt and has a set wt. that it prefers.

My fear is absolutely that I won't lose enough. I started the 2-week pre-surgery diet at 265. I'm 5 1/2 weeks post-surgery now. I've only lost 29.5 pounds so far. I'm 5'3 and would like to get to 130-135.

Please oh please 130-135.......

The questions you wrote are the ones that have been making me a bit anxious lately. I'm 18 lbs form MY goal, and 28 lbs from my doctors goal. I have search and search for maintenance info, but it's pretty limited. As my goal gets closer to being a reality, I'm becoming more apprehensive about how I will manage to not yo-yo for the rst of my life. I'm trying to get educated, but there is very little info out there on the next phase.

Glad that I'm not the only one thinking about this. It came up recently on another board where I am a member. I am 3 lbs from my original personal goal (still an overweight bmi) and 17 lbs from a normal bmi. I have slowed a lot but I still lose a lb or two here and there with this little ying yang with wanting and trying to lose to get to a normal bmi and at the same wondering how I get it to stop when I get there. I have only been sporadic with my working out and so my weight loss has mainly come from my smaller eating. I am still thrilled I had the sleeve, just thinking that I am in a routine of what and how I eat and now I will need to change it up to add enough to maintain but not to gain. HAHA, who would have thought 6 months ago that I would have this "problem". I also don't want to get too thin because at my age (57) too thin can age you, plus I don't want to be a bobble head either!!

I'm still banded right now, but have those same ideas in mind if I were to have this procedure.

I worried about this a lot before I committed to having the surgery. Most of the people I have seen who had WLS and where very heavy (300+) looked like deflated balloons after they lost weight. Sorry - but that's what I have always thought. Unless they had skin surgery, and I mean major skin surgery everywhere, their bodies where, in my opinion, deflated balloons. Now that I have had the surgery and I'm down 113 pounds, and yes, parts of me are looking deflated, I am not at all worried about losing too much.I feel so much better. I have so much more energy. I am just so thankful for the surgery and for this second chance at health and life. I have no idea just how deflated I will end up - that's in God's hands. This adventure I/we are on is such an amazing blessing!

      So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

        It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

      I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

        I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

      How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

        Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

        I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

        I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

        I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

      Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again. 
      I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent. 
      I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

      Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
      For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
      For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
      Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
      Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
      It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
