Wow time flies...

I haven't updated in a long time, think since my last fill appointment. In fact, I had another appointment today, and cancelled it. In the last week or ten days, the scale has been kind to me, so perhaps I'm letting the scale tell me when to have a fill vs. really paying attention to my body.

I'm getting back to basics; lots of water- eating 3x per day- and no snacks! Ice cream has found its way back to my mouth, i really don't cheat with other stuff. Blue Bell Hell is where I've been. Back to those sugar free popsicles instead.

But, the really good news is that we enjoyed spring break at Disney World, and I was the one leading the pack walking, walking, lets go go go. 50 lbs ago, it would have been a much different story!

I havent updated this in awhile either! I am now down 69 lbs with my last fill being too tight and needing an unfill, stats below! My ticker was wrong for awhile as I gained about 7 lbs after the unfill but it was mostly Water and it only took me 2 weeks to get it back off. I think I may be at my "sweet spot" now...although sweets have definately entered the picture again! :) I think it's because with almost 70 lbs gone I actually like the way I'm starting to look and I'm getting too comfortable...I do want to lost at lease 20 most lbs to be in onederland by my wedding though....so I'm starting today, less sweets (I work at starbucks so this will be hard) and water, water water!!

Hi everybody, I was banded on Aug. 7th 2006 by Dr. Fielding @ NYU Medical Center. So far I'm down 119 lbs, but my band was too tight and I had to get an unfill yesterday, so I may gain a bit of that back for a while.

Hey gang, thought I'd check in. I'm sad to say the band has not worked for me. The reasons are both ME-related and band-related, but ultimately it just wasn't the best tool for me. I have decided to have the band removed and get the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy surgery with Dr. Joya in PV, Mex the day after Thanksgiving. This decision has been reall difficult for many reasons. Admitting once and for all that I have failed with the band -- or the band has failed me. Another stage of research, saving up money, convincing family and friends...it's the same stuff I just did last year! But ultimately I think this is best for me. I need to change my goal tracker, but I am officially at my goal of -100 (i like round numbers). Doing the happy dance on the scales.

Oh, and yesterday I went shopping... of course to celebrate... and actually fit into a sz 8 jean. Those jeans were sold the second I was able to button 'em...

I had my surgery august 23rd of o6. I have lost 85 lbs. My name is Dieta C. and I had my surgery is Richardson Texas by Dr. Benevides (i think thats how you spell his name, I call him dr.. I started out 252 lbs at a size 22/24. I now weigh 167 lbs. and am in a size 14, needing to get a size 12 soon. I have had no complications with my band, except being overfilled once and alot of heartburn. This last week I went to get a slight unfill due to not being able to eat as much as I needed to, I was losing at least a lb. a day. Well they x-rayed me and found I had a slippage of my band due to the amount of weight I had lost and a cold I had in August with a pretty bad cough. I am now on a liquid diet for 7 days and mushy diet for 7 days and then I go back to have it looked at again to see if the diet fixed it. If not they might have to go back in and fix it with an operation. They are confident that it will get fixed by the diet. This liquid diet is hard though. I want at least some food, even if its the little bit I was able to eat. They took all my fill out and I didn't realize I haven't been truly hungry in so long I forgot what it felt like. Now I know what I'm not missing. I thought I had lost my weight my food addiction was gone or that I could at least control it. Since I have no Fluid in me I realize now that it is a battle I will have to fight my entire life and that in some ways I am still afraid of food and it making me fat. Does this make sense? Anyway, I know this was supposed to be only a running total update and I got carried away. Sorry about that.

Hi Faybe,

I believe that my posting was not correct. I was banded on August 17th by Dr. Avila. I started at 237 and currently am at 153. My lowest was about 3 weeks ago at 149, but had to have an unfill at that point due to inflamation as I guess I may have been too tight. So I have lost a total of 84 lbs. I would like to get down a bit more. thanks for your work on this site.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
