Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

Recommended Posts

Happy Wednesday!!!

It's quiet here so let's get it rolling. How is everyone?? I'm in a holding pattern. Trying to find out a good calorie count for me. I want to maintain and I've always eaten low calorie around 800 or so daily. Recently' date=' I've up them to a little over 1000 and guess what??? I gained two pounds. ?de33

What the hey!!! I should be able to eat at least 1200-1400 daily but my body wants to gain if I do it. Has anyone found a happy spot?[/quote']

I eat that much and dont gain..if i dont work out i just maintain where im at..which is finally at 194...if i eat more towards 1200 i lose. Anything less than that i feel like im not eating lol once i am over thos cold i can start working out. I want to lose the last 15 lbs by my one year to reach 100lbs. Granted ill still have 15 or 20 lbs left but im happy now so at 180 ill prob be fine too.

Hope everyone enjoyed their fourth!

Hi everyone :) when I started this journey on September 3 2012 I was 382 pounds and heading towards death - the food was killing me.

I am now about 10 1/2 months on from the surgery. I had a leak. Spent two months in hospital and almost died more times than I care to remember.

But today I am doing great! I have lost 180 pounds and am at my surgeons goal weight. I still want to lose about another 20-30 pounds but I am so happy and thankful for where I am now!! This is the "new" or "true" me :)

Lissa, you look wonderful! green, I am also curious about my labs in September! I have done so many things this summer now that I am 70lbs lighter that I never thought I would again! I began at 225lb and am now 155lb. I really want to lose about 10 more lbs and one more size, but I'm ok with it. I sometimes get really confused on amount of calories, which seems weird! I was stalled for over a month and my husband (who is a football coach) kept telling me to up my calories and I told him he was crazy and then I finally decided to try it and the scale started moving again! I was eating about 800-900 and now I consistently get around 1000-1100 and I feel better. I have more energy. I am now trying more to strengthen and tighten everything so that is why I'm not very stressed about the last 10lbs. Great job everyone!

You have done such a great job!!!!

The only advise I'd have is to try an cut some carbs. Whenever I eat them it just makes me want more of them. I'm a carb junkie!!! Lol!!!

I too can eat more volume now. Kind of scary!

Hi my name is Lissa and I am a carb junkie :) I struggle with carbs too. I still find that bread etc is hard to eat, as is Pasta etc but know too that I still crave it.

No advice as it sounds like you have done so well only to say that hating yourself will increase your anxiety which increases the production of cortisol and can trigger the amygdala into seeking relief from the stress- I.e activation of stress coping strategies in the pleasure centre of the brain. This is the part of the brain that is activated by eating high sugar/ high fat/ high salt foods (carbs being one of these groups). So your emotional response and the attributions you place on the behaviour may in of itself be perpetuating it.

I usually would recommend planning as a mechanism to help provide control of the behaviour and once you feel a little more in control then looking at the cognitive traps that are impacting on your overall recovery/ behaviour.

I am a psychologist so sorry if this got a bit therapist-y :) disclaimer though- my specialty isn't in bariatric psychology.

All the best! Cheers Liss

Still struggling...but figuring some things out along the way. In bari boot camp last Thursday, we did an exercise about "relapse" that helped me identify some things.

She handed out a sheet that had a bulls-eye type graphic on it. The center was red, the ring around that was yellow, and the outside ring was green.

Green = Healthy Weight Management. We wrote things on this ring that happened when we were in healthy weight management/loss and doing things we wanted to be doing...examples of mine...meal planning, 3 meals a day with no snacking (per my program), aware of meal portions, exercise 4 times per week, take healthy time for myself, etc.

Yellow = Trigger Behaviors/Thoughts...these are things that lead to relapse or situations we found ourselves in that led to unhealthy behaviors. Examples of mine...Stress, break time at work, eating out, holidays, family gatherings (that always include food).

Red = Relapse Behavior. These are behaviors that tell us we are off track. Mine are snacking, drinking sweet tea, not exercising, hiding my eating, not attending support group, etc.

If you get a chance and want to draw 3 circles, this is actually a really telling and helpful exercise...I have hung mine up at work and am trying to pay more attention to myself when I am in situations that are in my yellow ring...particularly at work...

Hope this helps someone!

Kelly

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
