When were you able to take big gulps and/or chug when you drink? I'm 6 weeks out and can take a nice gulp but I can't take a few gulps in a row or it hurts tremendously.

I'm four months out and still can not take a big gulp with out pain/discomfort.

I am looking forward to being able to drink bigger amounts so I can reach my Water intake goals.

I was given the OK to drink faster at my 10 day followup. For the first few days it would take about 30 mins to drink a 20oz bottle. Slowly it got netter, 2.5 months out I can chug a 20oz bottle in just a minute. We're all different.

Sent from my mobile productivity killer.

When you gulp or chug, you're filling your tiny sleeve up with Water and it takes a few minutes for the water to go through the pyloric valve at the bottom of the sleeve/stomach. As your swelling goes down, your capacity for water will go up. I can remember chugging huge amounts of water pre-op, usually on a day where it was really hot and I'd worked outside a lot. Now that I'm drinking water steadily throughout the day, I seldom feel the urge to chug or gulp, except to finish the current bottle of water because it's getting warm. I find myself carrying a water bottle constantly these days and my worst times mentally now are when I forget a bottle of water when I'm headed out to drive an hour somewhere.

Wow... 20 oz in only a minute! Lucky!

I'm almost 6 months out, and still can only do a little at a time. I can gulp, but only 2-3 gulps or it'll all come back up -violently-! So I have to sip and sip. It takes almost an hour to finish a 20 oz bottle of Water. I'm very active outdoors in summer and it has been an issue this year to say the least!

Yes, perfectly normal and will be for some time if not ALL time. I'm pushing 2 years out and can just now drink fairly rapidly but not as rapidly as I once could.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
