What Can I Take For My Hair Loss?

Recommended Posts

Hello, tomorrow 9/4, I will be 3 monthst post op. I am loosing alot of hair. I am the only one that notice because my hair is soooo thick. But my husband complained about all the hair in the bathroom. At first it was ok because, it is so thick, I am not sweating as much but now it is getting on my nerves!!!!! I asked my doc, he told me to increase my Protein intake. I am forcing myself to eat. I still would rather drink my protein smoothies. Is there anything else that I can do to help with this Hair loss?

any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

thanks

Lay Lay:

I'm obviously not the best person to comment on this because I cut all my hair off, but I do want you to know that I totally understand. 3 months ago I could have posted the exact same thing that you did.

I took Biotin, biosilk, used clarifying Shampoo, used Africa's Best products, stopped coloring and processing, nothing worked. I have been on this site for almost a year and I can't think of anything anyone has said that actually works - not for our hair anyway.

I think the only thing we can do is brace ourselves and be as kind to our hair as possible. Since I am eating more food now, I can see that my hair is growing back thick and healthy. Maybe the only thing we can do is wait it out.

Sorry I couldn't offer any solutions. Let us know how it goes.

I used Biotin 1000mcg I take them 1x per day with a meal as well as a multivatimin and calcium chews. I experienced some hair lost in the beginning but not anymore nothing more than usual. I'm natural and have been for 8 years so I co-wash my hair I don't use anything with sulfates I also section my hair into four sections and take my time untangling my hair with my fingers and smoothing it out before I wash each section. I use a wide tooth comb and start from the bottom of my hair and work my way up and I do not use hot Water only luke warm water when washing or rinsing my hair which hot water can cause tangling and breakage wich leads to Hair loss. I keep my hair moisturized (not greasy there is a difference) often and I seal my ends. I still color my hair but I use Aphogee Protein Treatment before I color and that helps with hairloss as well.

I don't know if you have tried any or all of this but that is what I do! Hope it is helpful! :)

Though I have not had my surgery yet, I just wanted to share something that I have used in the past.

I have used Nioxxin products when my hair was thinning before. It helped a great deal to thicken and strengthen. My hair sheds all the time anyway, so I'm really going to have to be proactive in ensuring minimal loss.

I am six months post-op and my shedding has slowed a lot. I increased my Biotin from 1000 mcg to 2000 and I also changed the products I used on my hair as well. I need to color my hair because I do have a lot of gray but I wanted to wait until the shedding slowed down. I haven't tried Nioxxin but I heard that it was a great product to try. I Hairsil Accelerator Shampoo and conditioner. I bought them from ULTA and they have done wonders for my hair. It slowed the shedding tremendously. I had to increase my Protein intake. The Premier Protein shake has 30 gms and it tastes great. I also use Body Fortress Protein Shake mix and it is 52 gms and it tastes pretty good as well. Doing these have helped me so I hope this will benefit you as well if you decide to try them.

My sx is scheduled on the 19th of this month and I talked to my hair Salon Diva and she suggested I braid it up and put in a weave so as not to have to mess with it too much. I have been taking Biotin for about 2 years 5000 MCG a day and have been going natural for close to a year, no color and it grows fast and is supper thick. Once I started my liver shrinking, or Bari Diet it started growing more because of the extra Protein intake. So i will continue on this path and keep increasing my protein intake and hope to have minimal lost.

I'm in the middle of losing my hair now.5 1/2 months out, 86 pounds down. I take all of the Vitamins mentioned above. But I do dye my hair. I've always stated that I will not have a gray hair to be found in my head. Now I'm worrying weather I'll have a hair to be found in my head. No dye for a while. Good luck. I think we have to wait it out. I hear that it grows back as well.

UPDATE:

I will be one year post op in May and I am happy to say that my hair has stopped shedding so much. I am natural, which means I do not use relaxers, or texturizers. (Miss Clairol and I have visits from time to time) I have been pleased with my results. I continue to take my Vitamins and added B Complex to my regimen. So far so good for me. You do have to continue with your supplements and Protein intake. I try to keep my protein intake between 80-100 grams. I believe this has helped me with my Hair loss. I hope this helps.

I have had hair fallout in the past and experiencing it during peri-menopause. At first, I cried, then I tried a weave and cried because of weaving it, then I tooke the weave out and tried covering up the back with my own long hair but felt self-conscious. So I then decided to go natural, no chemicals and a lot of natural oils, but my hair still didn't like it and continued to break off in the back. So I cried for the last time and found a short hair style and got it CHOPPED OFF! Because my menopause causes the back of my head to sweat the style didn't last and it curled up naturally.

Today, I have a short cut with a keratin. I sleep on a satin pillowcase and I use Argan Oil and Coconut Oil. I am happy with my style and I want to go even shorter. I think it looks sassy~sharp. I don't know when I will ever go back to long hair because I love not needing to do much to it. I also have some clip-on's that when I want to rock a longer look, I can and clip it out when I'm done.

Consider it a new YOU ^_^

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
