My BMI is 52.5. I wonder if I will be able to have laparoscopy. I still haven't seen my surgeon. I will have to ask him.

height : 5 ft, weight: 270, BMI: 53 Cant wait to get sleeved!

Depends on your doctor/your health. My doctor never mentioned any issue with laproscopic and my BMI was over 50. Starting weight: 325 Starting BMI: 53.3 Laproscopic went great.

Thanks. I appreciate the good info. I'm excited about starting this process.

I will somehow talk to my sister in law and share your stories. I hear way more positive stories than negative!

I'm really glad to see you taking your life back, and overjoyed that you are sharing this with your SiL. I want to make sure you are aware that even if everything goes well, and it most likely will, the first few days to two weeks are going to be the toughest. Your brain is going to play games with you, it's going to tell you that you are starving, your going to have some seemingly impossible cravings. I have no doubt that you will get past this without much of a problem, but I want to caution you about leaning on your SiL too much at that time, if she decides to follow your lead, then she'll also need to know what to expect, but I feel it would be best addressed as hindsight rather than in the emotional state that may be going on while these feelings are happening. I hope you understand where I'm coming from here. I really want her to see the benefit of what this surgery can do, I fear that since you say she has "given up" she may view the short lived struggle as too much to deal with, and lose out on the new life this creates an opportunity for.

I don't wish other sleevers luck, as I believe it is not needed. But I'll wish you all the best with your new journey & your new life.

Thank you. I realize it's going to be tough at first. I'm not sure if I can prepare myself for it but I will try.

Thanks for reminding me not to lean on her for support during that time. I lean on her for support in most situations. Since my mom passed away, she has really been there for me. I care a lot about her and I don't want to sabotage any chance of her getting healthy.

I know she will be calling me a lot and checking up on me during that time. I will have to remind myself not to complain.

My other SIL had VSG a year ago and she had it pretty rough at first. She threw up a lot and had a hard time with a lot of different foods. She thought she had made a big mistake. But now she says it's the best thing she has ever done.

When she had her surgery, I was thinking I could never do that. I wanted to but was so scared. After seeing how well she has done and hearing how happy she is and all her health problems are gone. She looks great. I believe I can do it. I really need to.

So I'm hoping the same thing will happen with my SIL. I'd love to see her get her life back.

I was 375 at 5'7" and was told by my physician my insurance would only allow surgery once I got under 55 bmi, at the above stated weight I was at 59 bmi. So yes being at a higher bmi above 55 increases fatality in this surgery. There are other factors such as age over 50, being male ( no, seriously ) and having other issues like heart disease, kidney issues etc

I'm 5'10 452 and I was approved scheduled to receive the sleeve tomorrow 9/4. I guess it depends on the insurance.

Here is the bottom line that I looked at. Just how long does she think she will live at that weight. I am faced with my own mortality and explained to my doctor if I do not have it done I will die shortly. I was 505 at the time and with the surgery I would at least be trying and just may pull it off and live a long life. My Doctor and I were in complete agreement on the mortality issue. I hope she will get help and yes there are risks but what is the risk if nothing is done?

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
