I Want Salty And Flavor!

Recommended Posts

Ok, before my surgery I could eat anything, and I mean anything. I would eat things that friends and family couldn't finish from their meals, and did not really like spicy foods.

I don't know if it because I can not eat much anymore, but I am so much more picky about what I eat. I give some of my food to my hubby now because I don't want to eat it. This is just crazy to me.

I want SALTY stuff, and food with flavor. In fact most of the time I don't want to eat anything because I know it is not going to satisfy my flavor craving. I am a bit scared to try spicy stuff because of acid reflux but I don't know what else to do. I need some flavor!!!!!!!!!!!

Any ideas? I am hungry and tired of eating stuff that doesn't taste good to me.

Do you take a PPI? Is refux from spicy food something you are afraid of or have you already experienced it? I have been eating any and all spice for the past couple of weeks (even cottage cheese gets curry in my house). I don't think I'd eat a big ole hot pepper to challenge the stomach gods but I for sure have not given up flavor. We use Himalayan salt it has many health benefits, helping to keep the body in balance, without the negative things that come along with regular processed table or sea salt. So I don't feel bad about adding it to my food, in fact its good for you. I think I know how you feel, there's not much room so what I'm eating better be worth it nutritionally and taste wise! I take a PPI morning and night as prescribed by my doc for the first 3 months, maybe that is what is saving me from heartburn but so far I feel like I can tolerate pretty much all spice and flavor.

you could try some indian food. by that, i mean make it yourself at home. that way you can adjust the spiciness to what you like.. but their food has a lot of aromatic flavors and different things than we're used to eating.. you could make yourself a curry chicken, just use chicken breast (or whatever cut you like) and buy some curry seasoning (which is NOT spicy, it has spices, but is not spicy like heat wise.. spices like cumin, corriander, etc)... anyway.. put curry powder, salt (to your liking), garlic powder & pepper... that'll have lots of flavor, is inexpensive & easy to make..

you could try thai satay.. which is skewered meat (chicken or beef usually) & you eat it with peanut sauce... http://thaifood.abou...chickensate.htm << there's a recipe.. here's another one: http://www.kalynskitchen.com/2007/04/grilled-curried-chicken-skewers-with.html

also, korean food is delicious... there is a lot of stuff that is NOT spicy, but is flavorful.. here's maangchi's website.. she lists recipes & ingredients & store locations & etc.. http://www.maangchi.com/

one thing you may love is Miso Soup.. it's very simple, but so delicious. it's salty & yummy. my favorite is tofu & seaweed... but you can put squash, potato, shrimp, etc.. whatever you want.. maanchi has something similar to miso Soup on her page.. it's called doenjang chigae.. here's the link to that video: http://www.maangchi....doenjang-chigae the seaweed adds Iron & is salty, too.. and the tofu absorbs the flavor of whatever you put it in.. i try not to use firm or extra firm tofu.. but stick to something medium or soft. sea weed is also a great source of iodine... so you don't have to get "iodized sea salt"... :)

bulgogi may also be something you'd like.. it's korean BBQ beef.. http://www.maangchi....nd-bulgogi-stew << shows you how to make bulgogi & bulgogi stew. :)

here's a list of non-spicy recipes: http://www.maangchi....cipes/non-spicy

hope that helps a little. :)

My six year old has a feeding disorder which includes no natural hunger drive (ironic huh)? For him eating is a chore, not something he enjoys. Children with this disorder crave salty, sweet and savory.his snack foods are not things that are recommended for us as they are high in salt and fat (Cheetos for instance) but his main staples could be made healthy for us. Turkish is a favorite as is korreen. (I butchered that) strong fruits like mango or papaya added to Breakfast or a shake. Guacamole with tofu added....

We have basically given ourself this rare condition. So you just have to get creative.

trader joe's has TONS of premade sauces from all parts of the world. their tikka masala (indian) sauce is great. they have a green coconut curry that is good also. you can just dip your chicken or whatev if you are worried about the digestive reaction, though typically the chicken is actually simmered in the sauce til cooked to absorb the flavor.

I drank a lot of broth from Vietnamese noodle Soup (pho). No noodles, just the broth. It had cilantro and lime and fish sauce and tasted divine.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
