Meds that we can take

Recommended Posts

I swallow all my pills whole. Most are pretty small, but 2 are capsules. I just had my second fill yesterday and felt pretty "full" after taking my meds this am, but no big probs so far.

When I am really hurting Tylenol doesn't cut it for me, so I take ibuprofen. I just try not to do it too often, as it isn't good for my kidneys. (Diabetic kidney disease.)

It was never my underdtanding that these meds were dangerous to the band itself. But that it is harder on the lining of your stomach because they sit in concentrated amounts in the smaller pouch for extended time. I wasn't told not to take anything, he just explained it would be a higher likelihood of things upsetting my stomach due to this. I have eliminated all my prescription meds thanks to surgery. I use the liquid Tylenol, and if I have to take antibiotics ( I pretreat for dental work) I soak them in a little warm Water, soften them up and swallow them same as always...no problem!

Good Luck!

Kat

I bought liquid Tylenol for adults for when I am home and Tylenol meltaways Jr Strength..Bubblegum flavor for when I am out.

Vitamins: I bought the liquid Centrum...have you tried that, flavor isn't so bad, reminds me of the Bayer asprin for children.

Hi everyone,,,Megan I cannot disagree cos my surgeon told me just take all your regular meds, including for BP and Diabetes,,, I swallow whole and have had a little discomfort in the 7 weeks since banding. So far, its 7 weeks since op and I have lost 35 pounds which is over 20% of the needed loss,,,was 251 (114kgs) and am now 216 (98kgs) . I am an Aussie and we are metric ,, hence the 2 sets of figures. Power to us all as we travel this wonderful road together,,take care from Carol

Is there anyone here that takes any type of medication in the form of Gel Caps or soft gels? Before the band, I was on 2 Fish oil and 2 Flax oil soft gels a day. My surgeon told me not to take any type of gel form meds after surgery for a risk of the skin of the cap getting stuck at the level of the band. Has anyone had problems with gel caps? I'm a big chicken and I am really needing to get back on that regimen but I am afraid of trying it out. Any advice?

thanks!:help:

My dr. told me to get chewable Flintstone Vitamins. Also chewable tums. I am diabetic and take Glouphage. My primary care gave me samples of liquid glouphage. I will have my band on the 27th of August. Dr. Bryce will give me liquid Loritab to take after surgery.

I would not take any gel form of medication at all..Here is Vitamins that I take that I follow exactly the amount of each Vitamins you need from Dr Perricone and it is all liquid form. Go on Buy Discount Vitamins, supplements, Low Carb and More at www.Vitacost.com Type in Buried Treasure and buy the multi-Vitamin bottle. It has the highest concetration of vitamins you will get in any form. And this site has the cheapest prices around..I am a health nut since I have lost over 100 lbs and I make sure to get all the cheap healthy sources on the market today.

Another most important "shake" you must do every single day, is a "whey" based powder with the highest concentration of Protein. Remember "whey" based. Same website, that product is Natures Aide or Best..green can and the vanilla flavor is the best. Very affordable...the next piece of the puzzle for me is a product that has Chondritin/MSN, blueberry flavor, liquid as well...this is awesome for joints, muscle, and tissue repair..I mix this with my vitamins in 100% organic juice.

The last piece of this puzzle...eat canned Alaskan Red "Wild" Salmon everyday..you will get all the omega's you need in this can..add the grounded flaxseed in the salmon..I make patties, like salmon cakes..very good!!!

There really is no reason to risk taking any form of pills when it comes to vitamins. Also, there is infant/children's form of liquid pain relivers that have adult dosages on the bottles. You can get almost everything you need over the counter in liquid form...just buy the baby stuff..it works!!!

And for those Doctor's that push their in office vitamins...are so high priced!! Compare the one's I given you...it is a joke!! The concentration of vitamins are more in the products I use than any found in these offices!!!

Hope this helps you....

Glenda

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
