What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"

all the external things you guys have mentioned were all there for me and having to ask for the seatbelt extender on the last flight i have taken in years was one of the most humiliating thing i had to do. The thing that finally pushed me over the top was internal and very personal. I was not phased by the diabetes or the high blood pressure the effects were silent and i could block them out but the sleep apnea was reducing my blood oxy level to the low 70% (scared the crap out of my doctor) while i was asleep and i never woke up feeling rested. the cpap was a nightmare i would wake in the middle of the night thinking someone was try to kill me. Slowly i noticed i was losing my memory. I would forget parts of the day before and then older memories became difficult. Nothing scared me more than losing my mind and the sleep apnea was stealing it slowly 1 night at a time. It was at this point that i asked my doctor about surgey and she started the long process (15 months) of getting approval. I had surgery on Aug 1 and i can say without a doubt it was the best decision i have made in the last 10 years. I sleep without waking for 9 hours a night and cant remember when i felt this good in the morning. I have not falling asleep during the day since week 2 and have lost 35 lbs so far and even with another 100 lbs of weight lose in front of me i feel like i have started a new life and i am going to wring all i can from this second chance.

I cannot even remember sleeping for 9 hours in a row and I dream of being able to do that. I think I'm sleeping a bit better but I have a long way to go. Still, I agree--this is a new life and it will be a better and healthier one! Congrats on your progress.

Losing around 40 lbs. (the most I'd ever managed to lose by far) and then gaining it all back within a year or two plus another 20 lbs. (and that number kept going up) for good measure. I felt like I just couldn't do it - my whole life I've dreamt of finally conquering my weight issues and one day being a really small size (and staying there), but I finally realized that under normal circumstances, it just wasn't going to happen. In tha time period, a family acquaintance called my mother- he, his wife, and kids were all always massively obese, and they all had DS (wonder if they got a family rate?) and were all doing amazingly well. He and his wife were finally able to fly abroad (before that they would have needed 2 or maybe 3 seats) to the country we live in and that's when they gave us a call. My mother told me all about his call and suggested that I might want to look into it - till then WLS had never crossed my mind (I never thought I was heavy enough for it, and I actually wasn't really until that last weight loss + subsequent gain) but after thinking about it and researching the whole thing for quite a while, decided that this was probably the only option left for me. When the surgeon saw all my bloodwork etc. and informed me that I was in pre-diabetic stage, I knew that I had made the right choi

My diet story is identical. I'm ready too

Turning into a hermit and not wanting to be seen.. Giving up of life and love

Sadly that was me too, I'm so glad I did it, I feel like I have been given second chance at life, love and happiness.

Mine was after a bad break up from a 16 year relationship being told to leave my home in PA to go back to where I grew up in Brooklyn N Y. I gained 78 pounds from going into deep depression. Also have very bad lipedema in both my legs causing me pain and unable to walk like I want to. I'm still in my process with the clearances for my surgery. I hoping to have surgery in nov, Dec the latest.

I took my daughter to the Zoo, I had to say no to several small rides because weight limits were under 200lbs. Missing out on fun experiences and bonding with my daughter. Watching my sister take her on the marry go round. I don't want to let it happen again

I weigh 255lbs and I have arthritis, and balance issues, I'm afraid if I fall my husband wouldn't be able to help me because of his physical issues. I need assistance with simple things.
One day I was looking through some pictures of a family gathering, wen I realized that my view from chest down was deceiving, I thought I had a muffin top, when I saw the pictures I seen the whole bakery with a basement going on.
I have been able to lose weight but never have been able to maintain , used to be muscular and would tell everyone that there was a lot of muscle weight included in my bmi. I realize things need to change so I'm starting my journey on the 22nd of Sept.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
