Hi All,

My question is how many grams of Protein do you currently take in? I'm about 3 weeks out and taking in around 40g of protein and my weight loss is slow. Do you think if I increase my protein intake my weight loss will speed up? If so, why?

Thanks so much!

I get 60 g of Protein. My surgeon said inscreased protein can help speed up weight loss. I wish I could tell you why, but I didn't ask. I figure that he is the expert, so I will take his word for it. lol

Ok, i'm going to jump in here but will be really vague as i can't give you all the scientific facts. I'm basing my theory on years of researching weight loss, working out, etc.

To answer your question: I SHOOT for 80 and if i fall short that's ok but i AT LEAST get in 60! with you being 3 wks out i would assume you should be getting more Protein than 40g UNLESS you're having problems with keeping thinks down. (you didn't mention that.)

I PERSONALLY believe increase your Protein intake would make a difference, how big of a difference i don't know but it definitely worth a try. WHY?

1. protein helps you stay fuller longer...so you have less chance of eating slider foods that offer NOTHING.

2. protein is harder to digest/breakdown so the harder your digestive systems works to break it down the more calories your body burns.

3. protein is the #1 source for muscle repair/maintenance so more muscle = more calories burned & fat burned.

4. muscle was cut during the surgery and protein will help repair this

5. our body has been through a trauma and when you're body is trying to heal it is pulling protein from anywhere it can.

HTH

I was told the same as TMyers. I was told to keep my Protein intake between 60 to 80gr or more but not less. He said it helps with the healing process and fast/steady weight loss...

Protein works to turn down the appetite! High Protein and low carb (around 30) and a lifestyle of regular exercise, decrease blood fats and maintain lean tissues while burning fat for fuel .

Carbs/Sugar is converted into glycogen by the liver, when your liver can't hold any more it is then released and stored in the body as fat.

ie: The more protein we eat the leaner we get / the more carbs we eat the fatter we become... Hope this helps ;)

This is what I understand to be the reason we lose with high Protein low carbs...it puts our bodies in a state of ketosis. Our bodies use carbs for energy, when we deny our bodies carbs we force it to burn our fat stores for energy.

So you end up being a fat burning machine!! Woohooo!!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
