Why Am I Not Losing Weight?

Recommended Posts

I Know I probably shouldn't be obsessed with my weight already but lets face it that's why I got this surgery to lose weight...I woke up this morning thinking I probably lost a few lbs...no I lost .8lbs that's it! I have to say my jealousy is kicking in over those who are just dropping lbs like crazy...I have barely lost 9lbs in 9 days since surgery! Is this good? Is anyone else losing weight like me? I mean if I didn't have the surgery then 9lbs would be awesome in a week but I guess I feel like I should be losing more...does anyone think my 30 min at the gym yesterday is causing me not to lose weight? Am I eating too much? Not enough? Can you tell this is driving me crazy?! Help please!

That's almost a pound lost each day. I think you are doing well! Reading these boards may not be the best thing at times...forget about others.

Good point I have been reading the boards a lot and some people have lots like triple what I have lost...I just want this to work so bad I have been trying for 12 years to lose this weight...I want it gone! And I want to know me eating a lot less is actually doing something haha

Is that 0.8lb in a day or a week? When was your surgery? Are you experiencing a stall?

I've had a couple 2lb weeks, I think that is pretty normal, and almost everybody has stalls.

others are just dropping lbs like crazy?

jesssica0728

you should never compare your weight loss with anyone elses.

we all lose weight differently - don't stress out, you'll be fine.

good luck

Jessica,

Approximately 3500 calories equals one pound of body weight. This means that you'd have to take in 3500 fewer calories than you usually do, over a period of time. This is a theory and can depend.

When you went on the pre-op shake diet, or if you lost weight "pre-surgery" that weight was Water weight. There is no note on how much you lost pre-surgery, there is no note on if you did a pre-op shake diet.

The less weight you have to lose, the harder it will be to lose.

You had surgery 9 days ago.

I lost 70 pounds pre-surgery. I went into surgery on a Monday and I weighed 229. I came home Friday and on Saturday morning I weighed 235. I gained weight. (very very normal). I had Water, tea, and I faked a bite or two of Jello, I drank about 3 teaspoons of broth, I took about 2 sips of Isopure frothy strawberry crap in all the days in the hospital.

9 pounds in 9 days is fantastic. The issues you are having right now are emotional issues. Once your body starts burning fat you become more emotional.

Here is a pound of fat... nice huh.

http://www.efficientfitnessllc.com/images/pound_of_fat.jpg?89

The weight is not going to melt off you, this is something your doctor should have explained to you. I have weighed the same for 3 days in a row. I eat 350-400 calories a day right now in liquid form and I walk about 3 miles a day total.

Your body gets rid of the carbs first then goes after the fat, but sometimes you lose inches.

You aren't any different than anyone else, there is no guarantee of losing 1 pound a day. Just do what you are suppose to do, follow the rules and the weight will come off. Being female, be prepared for a day that you gain a pound or two because of hormones, it happens, it comes off eventually.

Thank you Mina that def made me feel better! I lost 21lbs pre surgery...I went in weighing 231...when I left I weighed 226 I now weigh 222.6 9 days later...so when you put it that way it makes more sense huh and you are right I am so much more emotional right now lol...

Thank you for not being so emotional you took my tone of my note to you in the spirit in which I intended. We are emotional right now. I don't ever cry, but I have cried because I put my 4x favorite pants in a bin...(yeah something to cry about and I bought 1x that are getting big. I admit I get frustrated a lot more than I used to.

I get on the scale and cuss and say dang, yesterday I wanted to be 209 because I was going to the doctor and that would put me at 90 pounds loss since I started the journey.

I'm not eating enough to lose the weight, my body is holding on to stuff right now, because I am slowing my metabolism down a bit.

I wanted to cry when I found out I have two more weeks of Protein shakes and I wasn't going to get to eat the tuna packet that I put in the fridge, but I'm fine with it. I see how swollen my belly is.

Did you know that I measured myself on 5/28 - my surgery was June 4th and though my sides, my back, my hips part of my waist (my lower) my boobs, arms, legs I lost a ton of inches, I gained 2 inches in my upper abdomen (by the big scar). Even though I have indents and I have a waistline now, the middle of my tummy is like a big old watermelon. I sat there and measured myself 3 more times, made my son measure me and had an internal hissy fit.

Yesterday I was told yep, you are swollen, that's where the hernia was that's where a lot of work was done, that's where your stomach was removed, 3 weeks out your tummy is so swollen on the inside and on the outside. That's why I have to go 5 weeks on liquid.

Be proud of yourself for your accomplishments and more than that, be kind to yourself Jessica, at 9 days out I just got my drain out and was still napping daily and couldn't put on underwear, and if I dropped something I couldn't pick it up.

Stop the negative talk, or self-doubt.

We all heal differently, we lose differently, but in the end if you believe in yourself YOU will succeed.

I am in th emiddle of a huge stall - I am simply refusing to let it bother me. The summer is here, I am crazy busy, and still marginally keeping up - sucess! In my opinion stalls are practice maintenance, lol...

I had the same issue I only lost 8lbs the first week then 6 the next then 2lbs per week since then. I was grumpy in the beginning 'cause I thought I would lose more the first 2-3 weeks but someone on this site stated that the higher your BMI (weight) the faster the weight comes off until you get down to around 40 BMI then it slows down to a pace. I started at a 43 BMI. I think your doing Fabulous!

Seven days out and 7 pounds. Right there with ya! And started at 236. So we are pretty close in weight. I refuse to weight myself again till at least Monday. Pouting like you but happy to see the scale is at least moving in the right direction for a change.

Sounds like you are right on track. Everyone loses at different rates and your starting weight can play a big factor. A pound a day is excellent!!!!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
