we should always be careful and not eat too much. we have this surgery to prevent us from over eating. hopefully, none of us will ever do something as damaging as that woman did. such a horrible tragedy.

Wow. It just goes to show surgery is not a cure all. I wonder if this woman had to be cleared paychiatrically before she had the surgery? It is really sad that food had such dominance in her life.

I had no idea this could happen. I wonder if, with our limited capacity for stomach stretch, this could even happen more EASILY to us!! I just ate half a Weight Watchers 200 calorie Breakfast, quit when I was full, and now all I can feel is my esophagus!!!

This tool is great and really does help to lose the weight, however, it's the brain that probably needs the readjustment. Head hunger is usually what causes us to loose that battle. This is a tough journey, I've been out now 3 years and still have to fight that demon called head hunger. . . good luck all. . .

That last paragraph in that article kinda cheesed me a bit and really showed the anti WLS bias. Stating that this is a "known complication" of bypass surgery makes it sound like everyone goes around eating themselves to death after surgery.

It's these kind of articles that make it even harder for the public to understand why anyone wants to have WLS. The case in point, this woman didn't even tell her own family she had the surgery, and these kind of articles make it even harder for the next person to open up about surgery.

Having said that, I'm wondering if this woman just had a food blockage that she didn't know about and kept eating like she was supposed to, and it slowly filled up her esophagus, or if she just suddenly went on a food binge.

The esophageal lining is made up of the exact same stuff that the remaining part of our stomach is made up of. I'm going to save any comments for a more respectable article. What is the Daily Mail anyway? Don't give any credence to someone (or their editor) who not only misspells esophagus, but won't even own up to their own article. The only author I see here is named Daily Mail Reporter.

Daily mail is a British Newspaper. I am British.

They do have a reputation for sensationalism, however, I couldn't read this without it bothering me.

I guess we would need to know more before making assumtions.
