Hey I am just wondering if anybody has had troubles sleeping since surgery ?? I am two weeks post op and literally I am worried that I can not sleep on my left side since surgery..... My problem is I am a huge side sleeper so I don't know if it is because I am not healed yet or is this is going to be for the rest of my life ?? Any advice would be great thanks

I sleep on my sides. I used to sleep on my stomach preop but now its very uncomfortable. It may lie in my head for self protection in order not to injure my stomach in my sleep. The mind is a strange thing lol.

But as far as sleeping on the sides I dont have a bit of trouble

Thanks it is like a heavy brick laying on my left side right where that staple line is. As soon as I turn over to my right side, stomach , or back it feels way better so I don't know if it is normal or not.

I had the same problem initially.. I think its until 3 weeks post op, i happen to turn during my sleep and it was ok.. it didn't feel strange anymore...

I guess you maybe still healing, the stomach's swelling hasn't gone down entirely.

Dont sweat it, before you know it, you'll be sleeping on your sides.

Cheers

It was tough the first two or three weeks sleeping on my left side. But my right side was fine just a few days out. Even almost five months out, my left side doesn't hurt, but I now favor my right side.

I finally decided I was taking some of my Vitamins (as directed) too late in the day. I moved those up and that's helped. I also take 3 mg of melantonin (sp?) some nights if I'm too worked up to go to sleep and that seems to help.

I am starting day 3 post op, this has been tricky for me too, I am a tosser and turner at night, start on my sides end up on my stomach. We got one of those "pillow chairs" for the bed at Walmart and then we just have a mountain of other pillows around and behind so it all kind of cradles me in a sitting up-ish position. Worked well last night (first night home) my body definitely isn't as sore this morning as I had been in the hospital. Also I was scared to let my husband sleep in the bed with me, but it actually helped to keep me warm, I seem to not be able to control my body temp well, I am hot then I am cold..

I was the same way at first. I put a king size pillow on my side and leaned into that. It kept me from going completely over, but it helped me feel like I was lying on my side so I slept better.

I think that is pretty typical of any abdominal surgery. It won't be long and you will be back to sleeping on your side.

I talked to my surgeon and he said it is totally normal because that is where the staple line is and it is not totally healed so just to keep from laying on that side and it should feel better by the 6 week mark. So he put my mind at rest.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
