What Do I Do With All These Protein Shake Mixes?

Recommended Posts

When I went to the doctor for pre-op, the NUT suggested I buy the nutrition shake mixes they had in the office. I did. I purchsed a box each of vanilla and chocolate BariCare sn\hake mixes and 7 pouches of each strawberry and Orange Chike shake mixes. I don't like any of them. To make matters worse (or better , I can't tell) my mom went to Sam's club and purchased a 5lb bag of Protein Shake mix and a tub of Protein Shake mix. I have this stuff coming out of ears. I am about to start soft fooads in a few days and I have purchased RTD shakes that I can tolerate to drink for Breakfast. Someone please help me on what I can do with all rhis shake mix!!!!!!!

** I'll be 5 weeks post op on Tuesday

Are all of them opened??? If not, why not try to sell them to at least recoup some of your money.

you could sell them, or try to see how it would taste to mix them up in certain things....like a vanila RTD protien shake, may taste good and you can double up on Protein...

just a thought

Thanks ladies

I was thinking of selling them. None of the pouches are opened and the ones my mom purchased from Sams Club are not opened. I had a mind set of just mixing them, espacially when I progress to raw fruits like strawberries but I think i am just over whelmed with the amount that I have right now.

You did what a lot of us do in trying to be well prepared for all of the changes post-op. Unfortunately you (and I) didn't believe that our taste buds would undergo such a radical change. I actually enjoyed my chocolate Protein Shakes before surgery and now the thought of them makes me ill. I've got a ton of them that I'll probably just throw away. Take heed, all you pre op newbies.... don't invest in anything until you have tried it after your surgery or you'll be in the same boat. BTW, it may be difficult to return the items because I'm not sure if it's legal for your NUT or doctor's office to resell food items after they have been sold.

My surgery date is May 23rd. I will have a 10 day preop diet. Since I'm having my surgery in Mexico, I don't have a NUT. Any help you can give for Protein ideas would be appreciated.

Stoopsket57 who is performing your surgery? Mine is on the 21st with Dr. Garcia.

But great advice from topgun. I dont plan on bulk purchasing anything until I know what I can stomach or stand....

If you can't use them and can't sell them, try taking it to a nutrition store. They won't be able to sell them, but maybe some of the staff would be happy to get some for free. Or put it on Freecycle or Craigslist for free.

I'm going to check with my doctors office to see if I can get a refund or exchange for Protein bars, snack or the meals they sell.

Thanks for all the input!!!

I would definitely exchange or refund the unopended products. Sams should take back your tubs of Protein and you can exchange them for things you need.

      tl:dr at bottom,
I could use some advice. I went to see my dietician today (not a bariatric surgery dietician, I can explain why I am seeing her if you want to know). She knows I am going to have weight loss surgery as long as I hit the goal weight my insurance told me I need to be at. I have to be at the goal weight by June 24, 2023, in order for my insurance to pay for my surgery.
I had a weigh in the doctor's office a couple of days ago and weighed 301, my scale at home said 302. However, on the same day, the scale at a friend's house said 313.
I knew I had this Dietician appointment two days later and I knew she would weigh me. I continued to weigh myself at home (after getting new batteries) and I was at 302 then 299 and today at home I weighed 303, right before my appointment, when I got to her office I was weighed and it said 313.
I am concerned about what to believe since the doctor's office and my scale show similar numbers. I also bought a new scale today and it said 313.
The Dietician told me I needed to eat more protein, which honestly I struggle with. she said I needed 150 grams!!  I said are you kidding? that seems like a lot.  She used my weight to come up with this number.
Should I really be trying to eat enough protein for a 300-lb person or should I be eating protein for a goal-weight person (mine is 170)?
also, my clothing is loose like I lost the 20 lbs mine and the doctor's scale shows, and not 10 lbs like everyone else's scale shows. Also, I have always naturally been more muscular even when I was 120 lbs and did not eat any protein aside from what is in plants.
tl:dr- should I be eating enough protein to support a 300lb person or should I be eating protein for a "normal" sized person? AND should I trust the Doctors scale more so than the Dietician's scale?

        Hi!

I would love to be your accountability partner. I had the sleeve in 2021, so maybe I can give you some insights.

Please message me back, looking forward to hearing from you!
