Before surgery, my favorite thing to eat was chinese. I am 4 weeks out and back to eating normal foods this week - no more mushies!!!!

My problem is.....I really want Chinese. Anyone eat it? What do you have? I am not a huge fan of the Soups.< /p>

Hmmmmm.......help!

Beef and broccoli? or chicken with Chinese veggies? I'd skip the rice, though. That might now set well at this point. Enjoy! I have a couple of weeks before solids . . . and I love Chinese, too!

I LOVE and eat chinese food a lot.....i LOVE moo goo gai pan (chicken and mushrooms) and also love chicken egg foo young! Lots of veggies and Protein. But, I can also handle rice/pasta just fine, so I also love me some chicken chow mein.....it's just not as good for you since it's full of noodles. I've found it's fun to try new things on the menu that I never tried before now that I know I shouldn't go for the fried stuff with sweet sauces (almond chicken, sweet and sour pork, general tso's chicken, fried rice, noodles, etc, that used to ALL be my favorite!). Don't get me wrong, I still steal bites of sweet and sour off my hubbies plate, but only one or two. Now I try to look for menu items that are mainly stir fried Protein with veggies....shrimp with pea pods I love. I wouldn't have eaten that before cause there was not much shrimp, lol (it was always about the quantity!)....now I don't care because I can't eat it all anyway! Oh, moo shu pork or chicken! The pancakes are so thin, and it's good without the pancakes, too! Again, more veggies and protein.

It's fun trying new things, things I wouldn't have tried before. And now, Chinese food lasts me DAYS if we order out or take home. I love having all those leftovers! Oh, mongolian beef is a good one, too! There are SO many options.....have fun experimenting!

Oye, 4 weeks out ... Chinese ... well, no rice, for sure. Start with the tofu (protein) and have a few bites of steamed veggies for starters. Just take it slow and listen to your body. It is easy to over-indulge on cravings.

Let us know how it goes.

I'm probably not going to get it for a few more weeks in fear that I may hurt myself.....but I need to know that there is a treat of chinese in my future lol

Remember that chinese has lots of salt which will make you retain Water. If you must have some chinese this early out, just pick the meat out of it and dont eat the noodles or rice. It wont take but a few bites and you will be full anyway. I ate the shrimp and veggies once but i only at the shrimp and one other time I had mongolian beef and just had a few pieces of the soft beef since they cut it so thin. Good luck and drink plenty of water after so you flush out the sodium. It can cause you to retain that water and not lose weight.

Lettuce wraps. I make my own with tofu, ground chicken and ground pork. Usually bamboo shoots and Water chestnuts, but I'll definitely be leaving those out now. I will also be skipping the "lettuce wrap" part, and just eating the filling. :)

Tofu doesn't have a lot of flavor on its own. It tends to take on whatever flavor you marinate it in. Soy sauce is a great marinade. You can also get soy/tofu noodles at lots of markets. Make your own stir fry with chicken (or meat of choice).

I am 5.5 weeks out and had the craving too. My surgeon is fairly lax, as in my NUT, and they allow all things as tolerated. I ordered kung pao chicken a few days ago. I ate off of it for 3 days before finally throwing it away (still had about 3/4 of it left). No rice, and I only ate the chicken, Water chesnuts, and a few peanuts (chewed to Peanut Butter mush). It was delicious, and satisfied the craving. The thing I've noticed, is that if I crave something, it's better for me to have a little bit of it, and then I'm over it! The idea of having to eat the same thing over and over given the amount of leftovers we now all have on our plates, just annoys me and then I don't want it anymore. If I deny myself, then I just tend to focus on that. I know a lot of people will say it's too easy to over-indulge, and I totally understand, but I am not physically able to at this point. I have tiny portions of pretty much whatever I want (within reason).

I was doing the low-carb, low-sugar, low-fat thing, and couldn't figure out why I was passing out so easily. Boyfriend (he's a paramedic), told me to look at how much sugar I was consuming. I was only getting in 1-4 grams of sugar per day. Talked with my Dr, and started eating more balanced. I'm now eating regular cheese, 2% milk, etc. and I feel MUCH better. Always go by what your Dr. recommends, and what your body needs.

Edamame with soy noodles and chicken, cut up and stir fried in a wasabe-soy mixture was pretty good for me - I had a friend make some just for me during a wok-party.

Also try the Snacks - wasabe flavored seaweed slips - wasabi covered peas and dried edamame are sooo good!

I have been pre-op dieting for 4 weeks now and am mentally in the zone.. No cheating for me!! BUT... I am definitely looking forward to having my chicken and sprouts or chicken and broccoli one day again!!! YAY!!!

Maybe try Thai food, it still has the Asian influences, but they tend to have a few more healthy options. Such as Thai rolls, they offer beef and vegetables. I used to love Chinese food, now I love Thai food. I personally feel Thai food has overall better quality.

I made hummus tonight with roasted edamame, which is easily my favorite veggie. Seasoned with some soy sauce. And now I have heartburn.:) (the nectar Protein Drink with SF lemonade mix added could have something to do with it)

or try hibatchi. If you go for lunch their specials are CHEAP! you can get the same thing you get for dinner in a lunch portion for less than 10 bucks. And you can moniter what they put in your food. They always use the fat free or no sodium seasonings when they cook mine, and it comes with a salad (dressing on the side) with zuccini, broccoli, carrots onions. YUM! You can get chicken, Steak, or shrimp. and if you cant have rice they will cook it without. i get shrimp then have a few bites of the hub steak and daughters chicken (then take most of mine home for left overs hahaha) The fried and sauces are where the extra calories come from.

In this day and age where everyone is "on a diet" and restaruants are a lot better at catering to the customer.

I had dim sum yesterday as my co-workers were throwing a retirement party for a friend. I do not recommend it. I didn't eat a lot, but my stats were horrible, I only ate about 800 calories for the day, but my carb count was through the roof! My Protein was WAY too low. I've looked at restaurant Chinese dishes and most of the sauces they throw on make it difficult. Good authentic Chinese food is better than the fast food type crap they sling at Panda Express, but only just.

Cook it at home and control the sugar and starches or get steamed veggies and lean meats or seafood without a lot of sauce if any. Omit the noodles and rice unless you can stand soy noodles -- which I cannot.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
