Revision Surgery Weight Loss...

Recommended Posts

When I was talking to my surgeon on yesterday, he told me that the range of weight loss was between 60-80%

He told me that because I have a band and it has been in for almost 7 years the top of my stomach (my pouch) is probably expanded some ( it has a little) he said that it would effect the amount of weight I would lose with the Sleeve, he expects me to be more to the 60% end of the percentage....

My question is, is there any revisioners who have achieved the 80% mark, I truly believe I can get to the 80% (I know how I am when my back is against the wall, I'm a fighter) and I am praying I can lose 100% of my excess weight, I'm starting now...

I just would like to hear from you...

thanks

I am not sure I am understanding your surgeon.

When he pops that band off, you are back to your original stomach pre-band (plus or minus some scar tissue of course!). I just had my band removed and have no restriction at all. Why in the world would that affect future weight loss and make us on the lower side of losing excess weight? IMO, it makes us one up on virgin sleevers because we know what to expect and how to handle it when we have a tool that works! :)

I am a fighter too and I believe that our weight loss is in our hands, not a previous band being on our stomach. Our sleeve is going to be our tool to lose as much weight as we can as long as we work it.

You rock that sleeve (when you get it) and show him that you are in that 80%+ categoryl! :)

Good luck and stay positive!

I just went to the doctor and asked him this question...And he said sleeve patients loose about 77% of there excess weight..were full gastral bypass patients loose approx 80% of there original excess weight..I've never had the band so I'm not sure of there outcomes...My question is what stops us from loosing 100% of our excess weight? My eye is on the prize ! No one is telling me that I can't loose 100 %..

I had my 7-week check-up with the surgeon yesterday. He told me that 3% of bariatric surgery patients get to a BMI below 25. 97% get to 26 - 30. My goal is 23, so it's going to be interesting to see how close I can get.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
