Need help with Stubborn hair!!!! and no it's not the typical hair question!!! :))

Recommended Posts

Ok, soooooo I'm a 10 month post sleever. Yes I have lost a bunch of hair, yes I take a whole lot of Biotin everyday and yes some of my hair is growing back, but......... darned if the rest of my head of hair has just about stopped growing.

So to get my point across, back in May maybe or maybe it was even April (when my hair was starting to shed) I got it trimmed above my shoulders in a cute medium length wedge..... and guess what.... it's been what 5-6 months since then and it's grown about 1/2 inch.... grrrrrrrrr

I take 2 flinstone Vitamins, Vit D, Vit C, Biotin, Calcium and B12 daily. I drink at least 60 oz of Water and eat a good 80 grams of Protein daily.

............. any suggestions to help my stubborn hair to grow?

Thanks - Tiffany

I'm sorry to burst your bubble but (cringe from flying tomatoes) NONE of the supplements, conditioners, etc. will work, or at least work WELL. Your body is reacting to being injured in surgery, being put under anesthetic and a pretty hefty reduction in caloric intake. You are approaching the one year mark and your hair loss SHOULD be leveling out, especially when you adjust your caloric intake upwards to stop weight loss - OR your body mass matches the intake of calories and weight loss stops.

Sorry, I just see things realistically, there is no proof that ANY supplement, Vitamin, conditioner, cream or "magic pill" will prevent the Hair loss if your genetics determines you for it. I view it the same as sagging skin, some are prone to it and their skin hangs in sheets, for a few the skin bounces back and you hardly notice any loose skin at all. No "spot toning" creams or massages are going to help it either.

Sorry cry_smile.gif

Hi Rootman thanks for your response! I'm not worried about the hair I have lost, I knew it was going to happen and the Hair loss is slowing down.

My deal is trying to get the hair I have left to actually grow....

Yes, but the two are the same thing. hair grows for a time, stops growing and enters a rest phase and then falls out. Slow growth precipitates this and getting it growing again so it WON'T fall out is the other side of the same coin.

I only mention about the failure of supplements because we here in the "first world" have a tendency to go WAY overboard and start popping supplements, slathering on creams and lotions and what have you at the first sign of an issue. I was reading last week that they are now thinking that overuse of supplements may actually SHORTEN a persons life span. While I whole heartedly support taking a daily Vitamin and whatever Calcium and Iron supplements we (especially low cal intake sleevers) need to get full intake of nutritional needs - I am hesitant to recommend additional supplements for the sole reason of something spurious like Hair growth. Is it WORTH the risk? Do we know what overloading the body with such things a Biotin really does in the long run?

Just be careful, Hair loss / slow growth is just a natural reaction, it will stabilize and start up again.

Ok... first of all... HOLY SMOKES GIRLIE!!! You look AMAZING!!! Fantastic job! biggrin.gif

Now, here's what I think. I've noticed a difference in the different brand / types / strength of all the Biotins. For me, the dry version (not gels) and GNC seems to work the very best for me. I also bumped my dose up to 5,000 instead of 2,500.

I tend to agree with Rootman as far as taking too many supplements. I do intend to stop using it once my bottle is empty since my hair is growing back good now. It's not something I plan to use forever.

All the best to you!!!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
