What will motivated you to have Weight Loss Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

What motivates us to have weight loss surgery? I think first it has to be ourselves. How many times have you tried a diet to end up either failing or regaining the weight back???? For me I had to really want to lose the weight and like so many I think I looked at weight loss surgery as my very last chance to make it work. And in the back of my mind I thought “what if I am the one person this will not work on?” I bet you have thought all these same things too. After so many other failures at weight loss in my life I wasn’t sure this was going to be my answer but I was hoping it would be.

What I know now 3 years later is that I am the person that this worked for. And I have kept the weight off now for almost 3 years. What I can tell you is it does take a lot of effort and planning and making good choice for yourself to be successful at weight lost and being able to maintain it. You NEED to have your head in the right place meaning you have to be willing to do the things that will make your tool work for you. Part of it is also finding the right doctor that you believe in and that he has a good reputation for being a skilled surgeon. That is part of educating yourself.:D

You will be making a lifestyle change. After the 1st month you will start eating regular foods for the most part and small amounts of food. You need to have a well balance food plan with Protein being the main thing along with veggies and some fruit too. It is a learning process. I never feel deprived when it comes to eating.

The motivation comes from seeing the weight start to come off. You may have some times where you stall, and that is pretty normal, DON’T GIVE up, keep doing what you are doing and it will start up again. Exercise is important and I highly suggest you try some type of exercise. Find something you like and some form of exercise that you will continue to do.dry.gif

Some of the things that kept me motivated were, new clothes, the comments that people were making, how good I was feeling, my back stopped hurting, no more pains in my legs. And the first time someone called me SKINNY. I also was taken off about 80% of the meds I had been on by my PCP. Now I take very little medication and more supplements to stay healthy. You have to make the choice as to what type of WLS is best for you. My choice is the “Sleeve” and I am very passionate about it. I feel it was the best choice for me for many reason.

Take the time to educate yourself on what is going to be best for you and finding that doctor who is going to be the best for you! This is ALL about YOU and NO one else.

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
