Soooo encouraged!

Recommended Posts

I've had SEVERAL surgeries in my lifetime....2 lapband, gall bladder, appendix, spinal fusion, C-section and of course the sleeve. I can by far say this is the best and easiest recovery I've ever had! I'm 5 days post op and have had minor discomfort..I wouldn't even say pain with my incisions. No gas pain or pressure, tolerating all my liquids no problem and have great energy. I had some nausea the first day but that is now a distant memory. I'm walking around my neighborhood 5-6 times a day, and yes...I'm resting too! I've been through a lot over the years, and I have this euphoric sense of relief and hope that this surgery is truly going to give me my life back. I haven't felt this hopeful and encouraged in a LONG time. I can't wait to really establish my healthy lifestyle and get out and START LIVING!! I'm just so happy and grateful :)

That sound wonderful! I need to hear that right now, my surgery is on the 25th and I am scared to death about my recovery. I know everyone is not the same but I seem to hear so many bad stories so a good one is what I need to hear. I am also a student and will be in classes the week of my surgery. I don't know how I am going to handle all if it right now and hoping for the best! I am a teacher assistant and will go back to work full time on August 4th. Just so much going on!! Thanks for the encouraging words!

Good luck to you!!

Amy,

So good to hear that! I hope I'm as lucky to have as little pain as you. I am really encouraged. I don't hear many bad stories on here...I mean there are a few...but I'm always positive it won't be me. Did you have good pain meds while still in hospital and after? The only time I had a bad surgery...was when the Doctor wouldn't let me have anything but ibuprofen after my second C-section. :( butthead dr! Thanks so much for sharing your experience!!!!! I will be watching your ticker fall! Good luck! ((hugs))

Dawn, I too will be in school the week of my surgery. Maybe not as much as you...but have tue thur class and will have surgery on Friday and then night class on Tuesday night. I think we will be OK. Just have to try to take it as easy as possible. I don't know what age you help teach...but just try to take it easy. Try not to get upset at the kids.......Good luck...I have my surgery 4 days after you. ((hugs))

Amybaby33, I'm so happy that you are doing so well. I believe a positive attitude is half of the battle to a speedy recovery. I wish you continued success with your sleeve. You are doing great.

Msmomof3, I'm right there with you. My summer class ends the week we have surgery and I have to take a final exam and turn in a project. I teach a group of four year olds and they are a very busy bunch. I will return to work a week after surgery. I know that we will do great because we are determined and focused and we are both ready to start our "new life". :)

WOW good luck Kim! 4 year olds! I hope you are able to keep them from bouncing into you too much! I had a home preschool for 3 years. I totally agree...attitude is definitely half or more of the battle!!! Good luck to everyone!!! WOOT WOOT.....I have less than two weeks now!!!!!

I wish I could say I've been that fortunate. While I have not had a lot of nausea, and NO vomiting at all, I have had some significant pain from the surgery. Of course, I'm only 68 hours post post op, but I was hoping to go back to work Tuesday, and I am just not seeing that happening. Granted, I'm home now, and getting around better than I did at the hospital, mostly because I'm more comfortable here. I cannot stand up straight, I cannot stand for very long. I can walk down my short hall to the bathroom and am thankful that I needed to sit down by the time I get there, and it's the same coming back. Laying back in bed is painful. I can sort of lay on my right side a bit (which has helped with some of the gas) but I cannot lay on my left side at all. As a matter of fact, my left side is extremely painful. I'm taking in fluids fine, and was able to drink a whole 30 gram's of Protein (in intervals) after leaving the hospital.

I really think it is just very very different for everyone! There is a bit more pain that what I had originally thought I would have, but I'm working past it. You will too if you have the same. It will all be worth it in a few months!!!

I have had quite a bit of pain, but it's not from my incisions or my sleeve. I had an umbilicle hurnia before surgery and the Dr checked it out to make sure there wasn't any intestine twisted or anything. Well the good news was that he discovered that the hernia was just fat tissue and most of it would go down on it's own. But what he left me with was a very sore and bruised bellybutton. It hurts more than any incision that I have. I will be a week out tomorrow and it is just now starting to turn purple. I guess that means it won't be long before it goes away, but I don't like that it was there in the first place.

Other than that my recovery is going great. Depending on what he says about the hurnia thing tomorrow, I will probably go back to work the following Monday.

Congrats, so happy you are having an easy recovery!! I have had the same experience. I haven't had a moment of regret at all, I love my sleeve! I feel very grateful for being blessed with this tool.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
