Ok...very touchy subject! I have PCOS and have been on Metformin for a long time which has caused diarrah...which caused hemrroid and ultimately 2 anal fissures! The most painful experience ever!!! Saw a rectal surgeon but this pain has been doing on for almost a month. Has anyone experienced this and what did you do about it. The Dr. says it not surgery worthy at this time but it has been a real pain in the butt!!!! LOL! Tracy

I don't currently have fissures, but have hemmeroids. I use a packet of Benefiber powedered Fiber in 8 oz of Water every other day. Also, I have preperation H medicated wipes in each of my bathrooms, and use them each time I have to go to the bathroom. I also keep Preperation H suppositories in my fridge, and use them when the discomfort it too great, and at night.

Thanks for the replies...the fissures are very different from the hemrroids....fissures are tears in the rectum which burn!!!! witch hazel and hemmorroid stuff doesn't help....in fact can cause more pain! Just hoping for some ideas...thanks again, Tracy

I hope you have your PITA resolved by now...LOL...but have you tried diaper cream? Original Desitin ointment...look for the highest zinc oxide content possible. My daughter used to get *horrible* **terrible** ***dreadful*** diaper rashes....open, bleeding and cracked skin. Desitin has a 14% zinc oxide cream that was the only thing that would soothe her. Would take a few nights of it, and it smells really badly but it would be worth a try. Hope it works!!

I used to have them and that is the worst pain ever...It feels like razor blades are coming out when you go to the bathroom...I used to bleed more from the rectum than a full blown period. Honestly the only thing that I know of that helped me was going regularly. I must have started eating more Fiber because now I am going more frequently and it comes out soft instead of hard and tearing my rectum. I don't have this problem anymore. I feel for you! That pain is horrible. I went to a specialist and he stuck his fingers in my rectum and I cried and screamed while climbing the table. It hurt sooo bad. Sorry for the TMI! But I so feel your pain! I don't exactly know what to tell you to correct it though except you need to get fiber or whatever in your system so your bowels don't tear you anymore once these heal. And that will take a while too--especially if your bowels are all solid.

I have had an anal fissure. Utlimately, I had to be put under and repair surgery done. It kinda sucked. I now use Miralax each morning. EVERY morning. It's gentle and mixes well with just about anything. There's a compound that you can get from a compound pharmacy that will help, your surgeon should know what it is. It helps, but mine wouldn't heal on their own. I don't regret doing it. It took a week or so to heal after surgery. Best decision I've made other than the sleeve.

Preparation H and diaper cream are not for fissure treatment. Fissures are deep inside the anus, you actually have to stick your finger in there to feel them (so cream meant for buttock rash definitely isn't meant for this area). It's literally a tear in the anus.

Fiber is a good suggestion to make sure your stools are soft so that you don't traumatize the area further, but the gold standard is Diltiazem or Nitroglycerine cream - both relax the sphincter muscles so they stop spasming, which reduces the pain.

This topic is right on time. I had never had Constipation that i remember but have spent the last 48 hours in agony. Prunes didnt work, stool softener nothing. Enema, no luck, took miralax and a glycerin suppository, finally felt like i gave birth. I dont know what worked or if it was combo but i want to know everything i can do to prevent this and what can i use for my pita. It isnt consistently hurting but kills when i go to toilet. I dont want to become laxative dependent. What is safe and recommended for vsgers to take daily? I do eat fiber, fruits and veg but apparently it isnt enough. Also i think it all got worse when i added Iron tablets to my pill regime. Any help for my poorly bottom is well appreciated.

Iron pills are notorious for causing Constipation. How long have you been on the iron? I wonder if increasing your Water with all the fibre you are taking to help "soften" the stool. Have you tried MIralax? It is now being touted as the #1 physician recommended over the counter stool softener, and that they are saying it can be used on a long term basis. The main ingredient polyethelyne glycol helps attract water back into your intestines to "soften" the stool. Hope you find the relief you are looking for.

I started the Iron about four days ago. I did take miralax and it might be what finally set me free. It says to take for no more than seven days. I dont want to get where I cant go at all without it.

Talk to your doctor. I was told it's non habit forming. It seems to be too. I quit at surgery because I wasn't having a problem in that arena and I've had no trouble. I fully expect to be back on it when I move to soft foods. I guess I should have qualified "every" day, but if your doctor says you can take it, by all means do... when I'm on a regular diet, I don't play around anymore. I do NOT want another fissure. Ever. Ever. Ever.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
