Paying cash for VSG

Recommended Posts

Looking to have VSG and am paying cash. Mexico prices are enticing but is Mexico safe in 2011? Need info on safest locations or reasonable providers in the United States more specifically North Carolina.

Mexicali is very safe. Dr. Aceves is one of the best sleeve surgeons around.

You would fly into San Diego and be picked up by their driver. The hospital is very clean and safe. Over half of the people on this board have gone to Dr. Aceves and nobody felt unsafe for one minute.

I'm with Oregondaisy. I was in Mexicali in January and it was fine, I walked around the neighborhood a bit, had no problems and as Od said, you are driven to and from the airport.

Dr Aceves in Mexicalli = I had VSG on 12-9-10. I drove my car the 2 miles in, parked at the hospital 24hr security parking lot, and was shuttled back 'n forth to my hotel.

Statistically Mexico is MORE dangerous than the USA - but that's just statistics. MANY, MANY people visit Mexico from the USA and have no problems whatsoever, including me and a bunch of other sleevers on this board.

I would have to hazard a guess that you probably take more risk just FLYING some where than you do taking the trip across the border itself.

I was sleeved at the Hospital Jerusalem on Dec 6th 2010 : http://www.hospitaljerusalem.com.mx/

My vote is for Dr. Aceves as well. Check out my youtube videos to see the area and hospital, etc....I also considered Dr. Kelly.

I'm going to Jerusalem hosp. Jan. 16th 2012. I am concerned about my personal belongings. Drivers license, small amount of cash. Do they offer someway to secure your items? And do I need to take my passport? I'm flying into San Diego

Thanks

When you are researching a facility/surgeon to preform your surgery in Mexico, or for that matter any place outside the USA, look for a facility that Is JACHO Internationally certified. The JACHO certification is the Gold Standard for hospitals here in the US, and they also do international certifications. JACHO certification assures you that the hospital conforms to the standards necessary to provide SAFE medical care.

North Platte, Nebraska - $9,999 self pay price. :) Not saying Mexico is not a good option, I'm sure it 100% is!!! Just showing that some places in the US have some good prices, too :)

I will fourth (or 5th?!) the replies already for Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. mexicalibariatrics.com I believe is the website. I had my band Feb 2011 and am going back for my revision May of this year.

Cannot say enough good about my surgery experience (and subsequent 2 other Mexicali trips post-op).

I believe his Sleeve price is around $9k plus whatever your airfare would be.

After my care in Mexicali I am completely biased towards American doctors and facilities now!!!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
