Protien questions regarding lactose issues

Recommended Posts

So I have been looking around at all the different protiens and since I have plenty of time to do so (3 months and 1 week.) been trying to figure out the best protiens for me post op. I have to be on Clear liquids 1 week, then full liquids the second week.

So far I am leaning towards the Nature's Best Isopure clear liquid protiens for my first week.

My concern is that I have issues with dairy. I can have dairy, just sometimes I pay for it...or rather my poor husband does. With all these whey protiens I am worried about gas and uncomfortable bowels etc (many times I get cramps ) usually I have more a reaction to milks and creams...cheese usually doesnt cause major issues.

I suppose I could do soy protiens as I react just fine to soy, but is it going to be an inferior type of protien etc?

Would having a large supply of gas-x on stock keep this issue from occuring? maybe lactaid, if there is a form of it i can take?

Any ideas or suggestions from others with dairy issues would be great.

Lactaid and soy are both fine. whey might even be fine, as most folks with milk problems are intolerant to lactose...You have time, so get a few sample of soy and whey, and give them a try! I have become intolerant to milk at this time... just a little... I hope this changes as I am a vegetarian and that really limits my choices....good luck!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
