roux n y to vertical sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I had an unsuccessful roux n y gastric bypass surgery nearly 8 years ago. I have no known complications from the surgery. I knew from about a month out of the surgery, that something was not quite right. I could eat more food than what they were telling me. After 6 months my weight loss just stopped. I lost almost 80 pounds and never lost anymore than that. I told my doctor my concerns at my six month check-up. About a year ago I had a procedure where they stuck a camera down my throat and examined my stomach. The bottom line is he told me my pouch had stretched and because it wouldn't be deemed medical necessary, that there was nothing they could do. I am once again back on 2 pills for diabeties, 2 blood pressure, and a cholesteral pill. I see that people can have a revision if they have had the lap band, but I have not or couldn't find a topic on roux n y to the verical sleeve. I have maintained about 80% of the 80 pounds and need to lose around 80 more pounds and am wondering if there is any hope left. Can they do the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy if you have the rou n y procedure already?

Yes, they can. I wasn't aware that it was possible, but a lady in my sleeve education class was there for just that reason!!

She had RNY several years ago, but had developed severe ulcers. So, the plan was to swith her from the RNY to the sleeve. I was just amazed that they could do it!!

I would find a doctor who has vast experience with revisions. That would be your best bet!!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
