when will I return to work?

Recommended Posts

I work in a very busy, large, multi-specialty medical clinic. My job is mostly desk work answering endless calls, checking pt's out etc. i do have to get up often to go to the printer to give something to the pt as they check out. How many days after I get home do you think I would need to take off work? thanks. :)

I had surgery on a wed. and went back to work on mon. I planned to take a week off, but I felt so good that I saw no reason to stay home anymore. I have a desk job that sounds similar to yours.

I guess it depends on your job. If they are really going to be short handed without you, I would say a week for most people is plenty of time off. There are people who have problems with nausea at first, but if you are able to get your Protein and liquids in, you should be fine in a week.

I didn't feel sick but really dragged and was a little foggy for a while, if you can afford to take the time off I would do it, but I had to go back to work pretty quickly and I was able to do it, but then came home and napped my little heart out.

I am back to work today in a medical practice with a mostly desk job. I'm 12 days out today. so far 4 hours in and I feel pretty good. A little tired but that's to be expected.

WOW ... my doc is requesting six weeks off.

That's awesome! I would have loved 2 more weeks off to exercise without trying to fit it in :). Take it and run lol!!!

I'm a stay at home mom. My mom came to help me. She was here until two weeks after my surgery. I have to say that I hardly had any energy for the first week at all. I wouldn't have been able to take care of my three kids without her. Once I was on full liquids, I started getting more energy. I even let my mom sleep in her last four days here.

Up until three years ago I worked a desk job doing Customer Service for 12 years. I can't imagine being able to go back to work for at least 10 days. It's more than just what you do at work. It's getting up in the morning to get ready. Getting kids off to school or daycare (if that's something you have to do) and then getting to work. So I think the answer for that all depend on a lot of factors.

Yes! The getting ready part was so tiring for me. Just blowdrying my hair left me weak and feeling like I needed to rest a bit. I went back to work on post-op day 13.

My husband and I both took three weeks off from work. This last week we have spent more time getting caught up on school again before we go back to work. If you are only able to take two weeks that will work. Like other people said the first week you are pretty tired and need the time to rest. The second week I felt a lot better and went to my classes. This week I feel great! Each day you feel better and have more energy but, the first week especially you will be tired easily. Good Luck to you! I hope your surgery is quick and complication free.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
