My closet in empty

Recommended Posts

What am i going to do with the 40 pairs of size 18/20 jeans that have been hanging in my closet for the past 8 yrs. It actually is very scary to get rid of them yet im so happy to be in a size 12/14 and all my other jeans fall off of me i am still in that sureal state of mind.

I dont have 1 pair of jeans that fit me at this time so i actually walked into the young womens section at target and bought myself a pair of "hip" leggings i havent shopped in regualar depts in at least 12 yrs god it felt good good good.

My husband and i went through my closet and took all the clothes that dont fit anymore out and my closet is completely empty lol yay me

Congratulations on your empty closet!!!! I know exactly what you mean. The same thing is going on with me. My favorite place to shop until I get to a weight that I will maintain is Goodwill! I was surprised how many jeans they have! I go once a week and try to find seasonal clothes. Now I'm looking at long sleeve shirts/blouses. I am lucky that I don't have a job that I have to have a snazzy wardrobe for!

you know, we should totally start some kind of surgery clothing swap thing. I'm sure someone would love to be in your 18/20's just as much as you're loving your new 12/14's!

I wonder if this is possible to orchestrate? Think there'd be enough interest?

I'm slowly getting rid of my big clothes, donate them to charity, I never did this before, always kept my BIG clothes even when I lost weight cause in a way I knew that I would have to use them again. I'm still having issues with giving away all my big stuff though, a mixture of being scared and not knowing how my weight loss journey is gonna end. I should though just give EVERYTHING away shouldn't I? It's a weird sensation though, trying to convince myself that I'll NEVER be that size again (20UK) did any of you go through this uncertainty??

I could use some size 20/22. I have my surgery in less than 3 weeks and even though my jeans are being worn through I am NOT buying new clothes until I'm down a couple sizes. Grats on getting all skinny n stuff!

My surgeon has a clothing swap every so often at his office. I think that's a great idea. It's an hour drive for me to get there, so I just donated mine to a local charity. I have a few pair of nice jeans that I'm going to pay to take to the tailor. I guess all that money we're saving on food has to go to pay for new clothes, huh? But I'll take that problem any day!

I'm glad you brought this subject up. I feel the same way.

I've been giving to charity the things I never liked very much, and throwing away the things that are not even good enough to give to charity (house painting shirts, work clothes, etc). But I'm left with things I really liked that are too big for me. I think I've decided to get some large storage boxes and label them for size, then put them away for a year or so. I have a close relative that got her sleeve around the same time I did. She may be able to use some of my things. If not, maybe by that time I'll have a different attitude about my "fat clothes".

I also know someone who had a bypass probably 15 years ago -- she still has weight issues. So I can understand that I have some uncertainty as to where this journey will end up.

Firstly - CONGRATS!!!!! That is wonderful :001_tongue: Secondly, I am a 20 and just barely getting into 18's and I have NOTHING... so if you would like to get rid of them I would LOVE to benefit....

great thread...

I have donated my decent larger sizes to charity... I have kept my biggest work trousers and my biggest pair of jeans, for sentimental value... the rest, well, I could wait to see the back end of them. To me they marked a really unhappy time in my life - at my largest - and getting rid of them was a really good move mentally for me as I felt I was saying goodbye to the fat I had lost.

I am lucky that as I grew bigger I kept my clothes, so at the moment I am okish... they are getting baggier and baggier though!

I too don't want to spend a lot of money on clothes that I won't have for long (check out this positive attitude...lol) so i think it will be a few 'clever' buys to get me through, especially for work!!

Well done all on our every decreasing sizes...

We should FOR SURE give all the old, big clothes.....I've kept TWO things just for 'show and tell' at the once a year show and tell support group meeting. A size 20 dress and size 40x34 pair of Levi's. Ugh, it's horrible to even type!!! This very minute I am wearing a size 8 capri and M top!! Surgery was June 11th!! I believe it was Dr. Oz who said people who lose weight should get rid of all their large size clothing or else we are expecting failure. I agree.....ditch 'em!! :) I donated my winter clothes BEFORE I had surgery because I knew I wouldn't be wearing them this winter!!! Thank goodness I didn't change my mind! LOL

OMGOSH! I went through the same thing recently! I really thought it would feel awesome going through my clothes and getting rid of them...... but just the opposite was true. What I had to do was move them to the back bedroom closet and they are still there. It was sort of like grief or a loss feeling. Logically I know my clothes do not define who I am, but to "get rid" of the clothes was very scary for me and sort of like a sense of loss. It was not anything like I really expected it to be! Anyway, I've been to goodwill and other thrift shops so that I can restock my closet until I get to goal. It is weird though to get a pair of pants on that I could wear just last week and find out that they are looking shabby on me! It's really a great problem to have!!!!!!!!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
