Well, you're SUPPOSED to be eating small meals (100 calories or so) every 2 hours or so, so I'm not sure I see the problem!

Just make sure you're making healthy eating choices, and your calories aren't going over, and otherwise listen to your body!

I only started eating every 2-3 hours once I hit maintenance. During my losing stage, I was advised to eat 4 meals per day consisting of a minimum of 15grs of Protein, and no Snacks. I stuck to that, and was able to hit my Protein and calorie goals every day. Between trying to get in my required liquids, and other goals, there is no way I could eat every 2 hours when I was early out.

If you are tracking your food, and staying within your guidelines then it shouldn't be an issue as long as your nut/surgeon doesn't discourage grazing. It's a tough thing to beat once you get to maintenance if you're grazing throughout the day. A lot of "empty"/hidden calories and carbs can pop in there and sometimes we don't even realize it.

I use myfitnesspal.com to monitor my intake. I only got this funky, empty twinge an hour after I ate before I started taking Prilosec once daily. I didn't know what it was, but talked to some long termers, and they advised it could be acid. I got on Prilosec, and low and behold, that went away, and I never felt it again.

I, too eat every 2-3 hours. I feel... empty. My surgeon and nutritionist said that was fine as long as I was getting high Protein, low fat and carbs. Adding Special K protein Water to my liquids helps me feel full longer.

I have been on Prilosec since a month before surgery.

I am almost a month out. I have basically been hungry from day one. I was advised while in mushy stage to start eating 3 meals a day..no more..and between meals as long as I didn't go over the calories alloted..(600,800) and I had my Protein at 70..I was ok. Yes I do get hungry and long to graze..but I don't want to get in the habit this early in my recovery..sometimes I chew gum, that seems to help a little, and when your drinking enough Water, that also helps the urge to eat.

It's bizarre how different everyone's advice is from their docs. My nutritionist specifically told me not to go longer than 2 hours between mini-meals. The only limitation is not to go over on my calories, and to make sure I get enough protein/water/vitamins.

If you're on mushy foods or the post op diet, the food just won't hold you for very long. Once you're eating solid meat, it stays with you for a long time.

I will be on solids in 2 days. Knowing that eating the meat will help to stay full is a blessing. I am really looking forward to the change.

Everybody gets different advice... mine is the same as ouroborous. I am supposed to eat 5-6 small meals a day, around every 2-3 hours. Sometimes I'm hungry at this time and sometimes I'm not but I try to stick to it as much as possible. For me there is no differentiation of meal/snack because every time I eat it is mostly Protein. It's when you start grabbing crackers or chips as a snack that there is a problem. If you are treating each time as a meal, mostly Protein, eating the right stuff, there's no problem. Eating 5-6 meals a day keeps your metabolism going and helps you spread your calories and protein through the day to maintain energy.

You are only "over eating" if you are stuffing yourself full, or going way over your calories by eating high calorie foods or slider foods like ice cream that go right through. The frequency of every 2 hours is totally fine as long as you're having the right stuff and staying in your suggested calorie range!

Hope this helps

I am the same way 6 small meals a day which I don't usually get all of that in. I'm on more solid food now like chicken so I stay full longer. I would say i'm doing 4 meals with no Snacks or anything. Everyone is different so it really depends on your body. I have seemed to lose that "hungry" feeling the last week, not sure if my sleeve is adjusting to normal but it seems i'm just not hungry lately. I think as long as your seeing results your doing fine!

I just read today and my Dr. also advises 3 meals and try not to snack. Eat your Protein first min. of 20=25 gms and then veggies, fruit. Quit drinking 15 min prior to eating and wait 30" post meal to drink and one website said 90". That way you make the sleeve work for you and don't wash away the protein and feel hungry so early. This is what I'm trying now. If I snack it's usually sugar free!:001_wub:

I just had my first true solid meal tonight. I was among the company of many relatives. I had grilled salmon, broccoli, carrots and baked Beans. I probably had 2 or 3 ounces of salmon. 2 bites of broccoli and 2 bites of carrot, baked beans 2 bites alsffI didn't even eat a forth of the meal. I was so stuffed. I was actually amazed about it. Seems I was always hungry on and off throughout this first month. Now that the solids are being introduced, I see why people lose lots of weight. What a learning experience, challenging as well. I could hardly believe it. It sure is nice though.though.

Does anyone else want to eat every 2 hours? If I eat every 2 hours or so am I over eating?:)

I got sleeved on June 8th. I am hungry about 30 minutes after I have my Protein liquid. Can't wait to stary on full liquids next week. Can't stand the empty twinge. I am going to start taking the acid meds. I read on someone else's comment that it helped take that away. thanks to all of you on this website! It helps so much!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
