I'm in New Orleans and there couldn't be a better physician than Dr. David Treen. He's the Chief of Surgery at West Jefferson hospital. He cam eduring rounds while I was in teh hospital and joked around with me to cheer me up and get me moving. My procedure was covered by insurance, but he does have a cash price that includes a year of treatment, including any complications, hospital stays, etc.

I am using Dr Eschete and Dr Gasshasin from Lafayette. Price is $11,500 and includes both drs during surgery and 2 nights in hospital, all blood work and years worth of post op visits. Getting sleeved on Tuesday, 21st so getting a little nervous. Performed at Lafayette General. They are both very nice and well informed along with their bariatric staff. You see a nutritionist, physical therapist, and another lady that walks you thru the whole process and is kind of a go to gal for anything you need.

I grew up with Drew Hargroder. Is he still cute? ;-)

My doctor is Dr. Chu in Lafayette. She's been great. Insurance covered the procedure, so I'm not sure of her exact cash charges.

I was sleeved by Dr. Bellanger in Gonzales two weeks ago. I LOVED him! He has a lot of experience. I had mine done at St. Elizabeth's and could not have been happier with the experience. I took no pain medication after leaving the hospital (the next day) and have had no problems whatsoever and I'm down 20 pounds. I was self pay and the price was $14065 ($7600 for St. Elizabeth and the doctor charged $6465) and that includes consult, all followups for 1 year, all pre-op testing, psych evaluation and anesthesiologist). You can also arrange financing through Iberia Bank.

I recommend him and his staff without reservation. He also does not require a pre-op diet, only the day before surgery.

Good luck!

Dr Thomas Borland in New Iberia, Louisiana is highly recommended; cost $9800.00

did your cost cover all your blood work, visits, hospital stay and surgery? I am considering the VSG and would like to know more about him.

I was just sleeved this past Monday 1/16/12 by Dr. Borland of New Iberia. I have to say that I can’t imagine this being more perfect! The reason I decided to check him out was because of the price, you can’t beat $9800 – once I met Dr. Borland and his staff I was sure this was the doctor for me. The reason the price is so low is not because he skimps on quality, if anything the quality of care is far better than any big hospital experience I have had (where you are treated like a number) Dr. Borland’s prices are low because he truly wants to help people. When you pay the $9800 they ask that you have cashier’s checks made out to everyone involved, i.e.: Dr. Borland $3000 hospital $5000 anesthesiologist $800… and so on. I like that because it’s very up front.

Another reason that I choose Dr. Borland is because he does it out-patient! I HATE staying in the hospital!! I understand if you are higher risk maybe it has to be done. However for me I felt just fine just hours after the surgery and was happy to go back to my hotel room in New Iberia! Dr. Borland visited me every evening and his staff called several times to check up on me. I’m still stunned that he gives his patients his home phone number, but that’s just the kind of person he is!

Dr. Borland gave me a simple 24 hour pre-op diet, which is pretty nice as I can’t imagine how hard it must be to starve oneself for weeks. My post-op diet has been pretty simple as well. This week has been just liquids and Jello. Thankfully I don’t really feel hungry so that has been just fine. I do have some gas pains which I hear are to be expected. I’m egger to start my transitions to normal foods and I’m happy Dr. Borland isn’t extremely strict about time. He allows his patients to use good judgment. I can imagine there are people out there who have dysfunctional relationships with food, and could hurt themselves by force feeding, however I think most people have more sense than to do so.

I am now 6 days out and I have lost 13lbs, and I feel amazing… I can actually put my socks on better today than I could just one week ago before surgery… I am so happy that I didn’t chicken out! The morning of surgery I was a nervous wreck, and scared out of my box – but I’m so glad I stuck with it!! I see Dr. Borland again tomorrow for my one week follow up,*** Come on 15lbs!!***

I'm having a consult with Bellanger, Hargroder, and Taylor. Bellanger because he's the best not just in the state but also a top doc nation wide. Hargroder because he's up there too. Taylor is a just in case visit because my ins will cover a 100% if I use him. I think I'm going with Bellanger though because my out of pocket with.him will be a whole 1k. What's a thousand for the best? I'm going through woman's too.

I used Dr. William K Ordoyne at St. Tammany Parish Hospital (my DH worked there, so we were on that insurance). I don't know what his cash cost is, but what a fine surgeon! He did my husband's sleeve in April 2010 and mine in April 2011. Without my mentioning him, my primary care recommended him and was happy to hear that I had already met Dr. O and knew his work (because of my husband's procedure).

Good luck to all Louisiana sleevers!!

Hands down, Dr. Thomas Borland in New Iberia. I could not have had a better experience and still only paid $9800. While that does not include the pre-op labs, if you have insurance, it should take care of it as it's only simple bloodwork and chest x-ray. It does include the hospital stay, but it's outpatient- that's how he keeps the price so low. He has you stay in any local hotel so that he can visit and check up on you for the next couple of days. I love him!

Surgical specialists of Louisianna Covington, la. Lavin, Moore, Redman, Wardin. Lavin did mine and while im pleaseed that I did it, I was disappointed with Dr Lavin on surgery day. I never saw him! It could have been anyone. My husband never saw him either. I think hes getting way too booked to interact with his patients. But he was a nice guy when I met him to sign consents....after I waited for 2 hours!! Cash price. 13,600.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
