5 months post-op and my thoughts

Recommended Posts

Well I am 5 months post op this month.

My weight loss has been SLOW. As I have said in the past, I dont want to compare my weight loss experience to anyone elses, but sometimes that gets hard when I read everyone's posts.

I have been at a stall for about 2 months now. Frustrated you ask? VERY! People have commented about my weight loss. I always say thank you. I guess on some level, I dont see it. I know my clothes have gotten smaller, but I dont see it when I look in the mirror. I have gone from a size 26 to an 18. By the calculations in my head of the weight loss I felt I was suppose to have by this time, I am behind.

Maybe I shouldnt be so hard on myself. I KNOW I need to get back to using the gym. I havent done this for awhile. I have been feeling lazy therefore my weight loss takes the hit.

For everyone that says I am SO lucky to have this surgery because they think the pounds will just melt off, I just have to say, you are SO wrong. I now know more than ever, that this really is just a tool. This is NOT a miracle cure all. You still have to work very very hard at accomplishing your goals.

Is it worth it? YES, absolutly! Would I do it again? YES, of course!

Can someone out there give me some advice on getting back into losing my weight? I would really appreciate it.

Thank you.:)

How much weight have you lost? Why don't you divide my 5 and then divide by the weeks and see what it average out as. Look at the bright side. If you didn't have the sleeve I am sure you are like most of us you would have gained it back and then some. So you ARE doing good. Just "reframe it" ONWARD...

Thanks for the reminder that the sleeve is just a tool, at not quite 3 weeks out I do slip in to the "miracle" way of thinking! I realize that you are looking for tips to get back at it and unfortunately I do not have any for you. However, I do want to tell you that I am currently a size 26 and just thinking that I might be a size 18 in 5 months makes me want to do cartwheels! Someone on here will be able to give you some useful advice to get you back into the losing phase but I hope you will step back and take a look at the big picture and enjoy the accomplishments you have already made! Congratulations and good luck!

Your loss sounds great from a size 26 to an 18, and you should be very proud of yourself.

Some things to help get you back on track is simply get back to the basics.

Plan your meals

Eat your Protein first

Avoid white carbs

If you have to schedule your Breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner, or however your program was first set up during the losing phase.

Track your calories, Protein and carbs, Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com is a great tracker that is very simple to use. Try to keep your carb count below 30-40grams per day.

Are you getting in your full 64oz of Water per day? If not, try to get in more fluids.

Exercising does help if you can squeeze in just 20-30 minutes 3 times a week, you'll see a difference in inches, the scale may not move, but you'll be burning some fat.

You can do it. Don't give up on yourself or the sleeve. Just get back to the basics, and focus on your goal. Set a mini-goal, and when that one is reached, set another one.

Thank you everyone for posting a reply, especially big THANKS to you Tiff! I appreciate the motivating words and advice!

I am going to try to get in more Water, some days I slack on the water intake. I was journaling every day. My water, calories, Protein, carbs and exercise. I dont know why I quit. I even printed out all these cute journal pages. I think I will start that up again.

I need to remember I am human and I will mess up. It took 17 years to get this big. I cant expect to just wake up thin! I NEED to quit beating myself up over this.

Again...THANK YOU so much. I will update you soon.

Take care. :biggrin2:

Also does your doctor pull labs to check nutrition levels, thyroid levels etc? If there are thyroid issues your weight loss could be slowed, Also studies show lack of certain Vitamins like Vitamin D can slow the metabolism of fat. So you may want to just check these things if you have not already.

My sleeve was 3/22/2010 and I have lost 37 lbs to date. I am not worried about rapid weight loss as it causes hair loss!!!!. So the slower the better. I am with Tiffikins. Eat the Protein first. I find I don't have room for much else. Being that I am only at 7 weeks, I think I have done really well. My son came home frm college nad told me he thought I looked thinner. Getting a compliment from him is rare so I loved it! Guess I shouldn't be giving advise to a 5 monther! I know sometimes I weigh the same for 4 days then all of a sudden a couple lbs drop off. Hang in there!

I'm sorry you've been on such a long stall, but your drop in sizes is wonderful! I was just sleeved on 3/30/10. I was a size 26/28 and I would love to think that I could be in a size 18 by the 5 month point!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
