hi so the answer is NO!!!! my mom just had the sleeve 2/2 /10 she is 62 years old has RA and HTN with a weight higher then 250. even though you do not know her... she still would no want her weight on this board. she is doing great. she did have to stop some of her RA drugs about one week pre op and was able to continue about 3 weeks post op so that her sleeve would heal. i also have RA and hope to do the surgery in august. so hope this helps. kelly

I am 53 and was sleeved on January 13. I have lost 61 lbs to date. I have already been taken off HBP meds (which I have been on for 10-15 yrs), I am sleeping through the night which I haven't been able to do for at least 5-10 years, and I am rarely (if ever) hungry. I actually forgot to eat lunch yesterday which was a first for me in my entire life. My answer is: that it is NEVER too late. You have to be resolved to eating a whole lot less for the rest of your life. It's a trade off , but well worth it. You are not just doing it for you, but for your entire family.:)

I've seen (read) several people well into their sixties who have been sleeved, are loving it, and feel like they've been given a second chance at life.... go for it!!

Thanks Stacy160, I think this is part of my usual spring thing when I hate to see myself in short sleeves(batwing) and a swimsuit which led me to critize myself as too fat,too flabby, too old and Iwas picturing myself as the only older person on the forum but I feel good now that I know it can be a successful new beginning and there so others my age getting sleeved!!Carla:001_rolleyes:

Oh h..ll no!!! You are not too old girl!!! I am 53. Just had the sleeve done in December. I am off all meds (used to spend about $500 a month on different meds), and living like a teenager I feel so good. No kidding, I have been canoeing on the Colorado, whale watching on a private boat in the Pacific (while spending a wild weekend in San Diego), and various other unmentionalbe activities since surgery. This weekend, I am hiking to the top of one of the local mountains to proove to the "youngsters" that I work with that I can do it.

I say, go for it. You can't believe the difference it makes in your activity level by getting rid of all that weight you are lugging around. It is the best thing I've ever done for myself. I plan on living till I'm at least 100. I got alot of living to do yet!!!!!!!! This sleeve is gonna help me get there!!!!!:thumbup1:

you are right trish4, but I never saw any older adults on here when I lurked so I thought I must be old to be having surgery, but I'm young at heart. Thank you for making me feel better.:biggrin0:Carla

I'll be 62 in April and I'll be having the surgery. Never to late to take care of your health.

All the best to you.

John

I'll be 58 next month....I haven't been sleeved yet, but have all the requirements in and awaiting approval.

During my consult, I asked my Dr. if I was too old and he chuckled....then said, 'Of course not'.

I just love that Dr......:)

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
