My oh my,

So...I had originally scheduled my surgery for this June with a surgeon here in UT. A great surgeon, but his cost was just as great, well as I have read, posted, and chatted with all of you I have had a change. I am scheduled to have surgery one month from today with Dr. Aceves! This is all really happening. I can't believe it.

Also, what stuff would you guys recommmend having when you get home? I'm arranging having a full week off, do I need to have my Mama come take care of me? What would ya'll do?

Congrat on getting your surgery date. I took my mom with me to help in the hospital. But didn't need any help when I got home. I live alone and just wanted to rest. If you have childern then the help might be good.

Congratulations from me too! You will be in good hands with Dr. Aceves based upon what everyone says he's got the track record to back it up. Good for you.

you are going to love it there! They all treat their patients so well and Dr. Campos is sleeved too.

I didn't need any help as I felt just great by the time I got home from the hospital. I hope you do too.

Things to have when you get home, are sf popsicles, and hopefully you'll be able to stand some sort of protien drink to get some Protein post op. A lot of people don't like Isopure, but it's full of Protein and I didn't think it was all that bad. It's not anything I would want long term, but for 10 days on clear liquid, I could handle it.

Feel free to send me a PM if you have any other questions. I adore Dr. Aceves and everyone at that hospital. I would love to go back just for a visit!

Congrats on getting your date! I had a very short pre-op time after deciding on and scheduling my surgery date. And ate everything in the world during those few short weeks! I am so glad I didn't have a longer time cause I prolly would have gained a bunch of weight! LOL

A couple of things I was also glad I brought with:

a small lightweight blankie, similar to the airline type, some airlines don't have them onboard any longer; I also used it as a "security/comfort" blanket to wrap up in after the surgery

a heating pad! threw it in as an afterthought. Saw it on someone else's list and figured I had room. Mostly just another security/comfort item, altho I did have some issues regulating my body temp so it was nice when I was freezing.

I traveled alone and was just fine. My carry on was very light and wheeled. I bribed some guy in front of me to put it in the storage bin on the flight. I did meet up with a couple of girls from this board tho - we all had surgery the same day. One was my roommate and the support was wonderful. Truly, do not overpack, especially clothes.

I have been able to work about 3 hours each day before getting very tired, one day I worked almost 6 hours. I do sit at a desk mostly and being self employed, can come and go as I need to.

At home, I spend alot of time in the recliner. My husband has been waiting on me when he is here but I could have easily been alone as well. If there are children in the house, much different story. My youngest is 15. For me, if someone is here, I feel like I have to talk to them and can't rest as much as I would like.

I have been following the Cornell Sleeve Surgery guidelines more than the more talked about liquid plans. I really needed the substance.

Good Luck! This site is a great place to prepare for your surgery! Everyone has been wonderful in answering questions.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
