My Post-Op Diet Log (START: Mushies Stage)

Recommended Posts

I count net carbs. For instance ... Chili is a "carby" Soup, however the carbs come from Beans which have alot of Fiber and they don't cause sugar spikes or cravings.

The amount of Fiber is so critical that it's not good to avoid a food with higher carbs if it has alot of fiber.

3 different nutritionists (when I had the band) told me to only count net carbs.

WisconsinGal,

I am so jealous you can eat eggs. I had a bday lunch and we ordered take-out. A bit of a toughy. The two choices I saw on the menu that I felt might work were a cup of corn chowder, or a Breakfast taco (scrambled egg, black Beans and avacado). I was a bit worried about the corn, I am still on mushies and I did not think corn would qualify, so I ordered the taco. I had three bites, and thought I had eaten an anchor. It was like lead. The avacado was yum, but the egg was still to "solid." I am so happy on the mushies, do I ever have to go to soft solids?

Today's Observation:

I think that stuff about the nerve endings in the stomach coming alive a few weeks after surgery are true. Or else, I am finally eating less carbs! LOL.. I have been very full the past two days. My morning meal totally rocks and is VERY heavy and satisfactory. lunch was a joke. I got the meal and then pretty much picked at it because I was full almost right away. And dinner... LOL... I was actually planning on eating a whole slice, but I couldn't. I sliced my one piece into 3 parts and couldn't eat all of it! Yeah! I am adding the two Snacks for later tonight... I need the extra Protein and the knowledge that I am getting a few more "treats" tonight... Now, if I could just stop eating real food and go to mushies or soft foods... I think I completely skipped mushed and soft foods... agh. :frown1:.. I am looking forward to my leftovers (today's lunch) tomorrow and probably tomorrow night, too! Later everyone...

So apparently I am an idiot. I thought I could finish off that pizza and even though my body was saying "hey, we are getting full here"... My head is going "well, finish what you have in your hand".

Needless to say, I threw up my pizza. I hated the experience but man, I love my sleeve for making me accountable for my stupidity!

Stacie, I make it to Milwaukee when I need to. I would certainly make a trip to meet a fellow sleever! Let's plan something?

Thinoneday, check out my "Aimee's Surprise Chili" recipe! I was trying for something with refried Beans and ended up with a yummy surprise!

Today: Day 17 post op

Breakfast:

1 Scrambled Egg w/Cheese

Lunch:

4 bonesless wings(over a few hrs)

2 cups egg drop Soup

Dinner:

1/2 cup Aimee's Suprise Chili

Ricotta Desser

Snack: 1 Muscle Milk Light

Water throughout the day.

Cal: 600

Carbs: 20.29

Prot: 48.74

End of Day Observation: I was really not hungry today. I am drinking more Crystal light (ergo more water) and I didn't feel starved today. I am actually adding the muscle milk and the ricotta dessert right now because I don't have enough calories or protein! argh! I may add a Protein shot if I go to sleep late... but not likely!

I made my "Surprise Chili" today and it was REALLY good and filling. Thank God it turned out into something good even though it wasn't what I was originally making! LOL...:thumbup1:

I would like that chili recipe. Can you send it to me ( chichis30@yahoo.com) I am day 28 post sleeve. I am new to the group and still learning my way around this website. Thanks. Sheri

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.
