Question for the Ladies..

Recommended Posts

I specifically scheduled my surgery so I would not have my TOM. But, of course, because of stress, the change in the weather, etc, TOM has started 10 days early. I am afraid that I will have it in next month right when I am supposed have the surgery. After post-op, will it be possible to change my pads and stuff? I am easily embarrassed and totally chagrined about this.

Thanks All.

I had my period smack dab in the middle of my revision in June. I was NOT able to wear my normal panties, but the hospital supplied these super stretchy undergarments, and I was able to change my pads. During the surgery, the OR staff/nurses, made me extremely comfortable, and I was not embarrassed at all. They deal with these type of situations all the time.

I was also on my period for surgery. I knew it was going to happen that way!

They gave me a special throw away panty to wear and a hospital pad. I woke up without the undies and pad. I knew I was going to have a catheter though so it didn't surprise me. My hospital bed had a pad to lay on and they changed it often. Don't worry it is a normal part of being a woman. It is not the first period the nurses or O.R. staff have seen. Don't feel embarrased at all.

My period arrived two weeks late, on the day of surgery (Monday). It reared it's ugly head, but luckily, most nurses are so great, and really made me feel better about everything. I needed help changing my pads, and "victoria's secret" special undies, and getting cleaned up. But they were all so comforting and wonderful about it. I even had a few big messes *sorry- TMI i know!* But it was not bad.

I just absolutely love nurses. I swear, without them the world would not go 'round!!

It's actually really common to have some bleeding, even if it's not the expected time, due to the trauma of surgery. It happened to me, but my pre-op instructions said it was to be expected and to pack my own "supplies", and I was able to wear my own panties post-op. It's not a big deal to anyone but you, so please don't be embarrassed. :crying:

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
