One thing you could do since you ahve to sit at a desk all day is get a excersise ball and sit on that intead of a chair. they are harder to slouch in and there is no back rest to lean on so you tend to have to use your leg and core mucles to sit up

Good idea, I don't know how it would go over in my particular environment tho. Plus I just have this image in my head of trying to sit on one of those things and going a$$ over teakettle, landing flat on my back on the concrete floor.

:001_tt2: I fit into one those annoyingly small desks at school. I even got the desk part to lay flat over my giant tummy. Still hate them though-medieval torture devices all! :)

Discussed my 3 month blood work with my doc and my total cholesterol was 243 before surgery, now it's 208, which is only 8 pts above normal.

Last night, we had a girl's night out and a club with a mechanical bull ! ! ! Never in my life would I have done this pre-op, but I went, I saw, and I conquered. . .

It was a slow, sexy ride, so no tumbling off the bull ! ! ! It was a blast, and I proved to myself that nothing is impossible! ! !

Sorry for the poor photo quality, the pics are taken with camera phones! ! !

I went to Wal-Mart today to get something for my daughter, and on a whim tried on a pair of the size 18 pants in Misses. They fit! OMG! I was so excited. I've been fitting into 18Ws, but this is my first time fitting an 18 Misses. My daughter looked at me like I was nuts when I started shaking my moneymaker in the mirror - but she was laughing too.

This may not be as big a deal to some people who can recall fitting these sizes. I have been so overweight for so long that I pretty much skipped misses clothes in my adult life. I guess I was in them in high school but of course my choices were limited because of my age. By the time I went off to college with the freedom to make my own clothing choices, I was shopping in the Women's section.

This variety of clothing options that I will soon have is even more exciting because I know it will last. I won't have to go back to Women's sizes after I fall off the "diet" wagon like I did 6 years ago when I briefly made it to 18. I can't quite fathom right now that I'll be as small as a size 10 or less. I'd be happy with a 14 right now. Now I'm planning to buy my first ever sexy little black dress when I get down to size 16. :scared0:

Finally got back into my size 10 jeans from my lowest weight with the band... And, I bought a size 8 this week as well. They're a little tight, but not too tight... on my way to single digit pants, BOOYA!

I saw an acquaintance that I hadn't seen in months today and said "Hi Jerry" as I walked past him. About 15 mins later he walked up to me and said "Where do I know you from?" He actually didn't even recoginze me at all. We both had a good chuckle after I told him who I was. lol

As of today, I weigh what it says on my driver's license! Which is hilarious because it was a HUGE lie when I gave them that weight in the first place!

hahaha MlkPas I can totally relate to that one and can not wait (weight) to actually be the size I said I was on my drivers license. And then beat it as I have 2 years before I have to get a new license.

As of today, I weigh what it says on my driver's license! Which is hilarious because it was a HUGE lie when I gave them that weight in the first place!

OMG that is so funny because my previous drivers license said I weighed 172, I actually weighed my highest weight of 215 at the time when I took it. Then I lost 35 pounds on my own and had that same license for another 3 or more years and people would totally freak when I showed them it because my face was huge on it and it looked nothing like me any longer (i was only briefly that weight).

So finally this year I had to renew and get a new picture and the lady at the DMV was trying to hide her surprise at how different I looked, she just kept saying wow this doesn't even look like you anymore. Then she said you have lost a ton of weight since this haven't you. I said yes I had though it was only 35 pounds it made all the difference in the world at that point. So she said well we have to put the new weight on the license so she thought I looked like that at 172 and so I told her I now weighed 157. So my new license looked 100% better but I actually weighed 175 when i told her I now weighed 157. LOL.

I took the picture in December of last year and I gained 20 pounds since then before I had surgery. So I am down around 175 and stuck with a license that says 157. I hope I can actually :biggrin2:weigh that soon enough.

Ahhhhhh, that's priceless! I remember when that happened to me with the first go-round on my band... I didn't even think of it this time, but I'm 5 lbs away from that this time as well... very exciting! YAY!!! :001_smile:

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
