Hey everybody! I haven't posted anything for a long time. So, I am eight weeks post op. I have lost 31 pounds. People around me are starting to ask if I have lost weight (that's a nice question to get!) But, I am having some issues. I am really having a hard time eating and keeping things down. I am finding that nothing at all sounds appetizing and when I do try to eat, I can only eat a few bites. I am worried about the low amount of calories. I nearly fainted twice at work last week. I am drinking a Protein Shake / drink in the mornings and sometimes at night. Am I getting enough calories etc? I seriously can't believe I am asking that question! I'm struggling with the foamies and the sliming too. I have also vomitted twice recently. I'm also having a problem with (SORRY) diarreha :confused1:. UGH....I feel kinda sick a lot. has anyone else gone through this? is my body still getting used to the change? is 31 pounds too little for eight weeks out? i feel like it should be way more than that.

thanks everybody!

I'm struggling with the same issues. I've been able to pinpoint my problem. It's not getting enough water/liquid. I bumped myself back to mushies/this last week because I just can't tolerate food right now. I've tried to eat more, but I'm just not able to do so yet. I'm taking anti-nausea meds daily, and on Prilosec which hasn't really helped yet and it's been 2 weeks.

I'm not getting in nearly enough calories or Protein, but I am hoping it's getting better. My surgeon says that it's my body adjusting to my new anatomy. I've just been trying everyday to work at eating something different to see what I can and can not tolerate. But, nothing sounds appetizing at all which makes eating not so much fun.

I hope things get better for you also. My surgeon just told me to keep trying different foods, to stay positive, and to increase my water/liquid intake. I'll keep you in my thoughts, and hang in there, I know how tough this new life is. . .

Thanks for the response. it is so nice to know that there are always people here that can relate! I was thinking it might be too little Water / liquid. I feel frustrated with it. On the one hand, I know that I am supposed to be drinking all day, BUT when I do that I don't feel like eating. Then no drinking before or after eating----AAAAAHHHH!!! I am feeling hard on myself because I've only lost 31 pounds. :001_tongue: Weird because when was the last time I lost 31 pounds in 8 weeks?? I just feel like I have already slowed with the weight loss. I knew that would happen, but I didn't think it would happen this fast. I really need to find a nutritionist / dietician in my area. I've looked, but I can't find any that specialize in working with people that have had weight loss surgery. AAAAAHHHH!!! Thanks for anyone's kind words...

I think how my program recommends we do things really helps with this exact situation.

We start out on liquids, mostly Protein stuff.

Then, we gradually substitute a "meal" for some of the Protein supplements.

In the beginning, the "meal" may only be 2-3 bites of food. It's just for practice and progression. It's not for real nutrition. The protein supplements do that. Then, as we can eat more, we gradually turn the Protein shakes and drinks into non-calorie liquids.< /p>

So eventually it's water/crystal light/etc. but, in the beginning, most of our calories are from liquids -- which always go down.

I guess having a nutritionist and support staff available to me locally is one good thing of my insurance covering this procedure. I can call anytime during the week and attend weekly support meetings.

I had four, yes FOUR, small bites of egg this morning. One bite too much! :001_tongue: I am fine, but, wow. All my Water and liquid nourishment went down so well, but this felt like a piece of concrete had settled in my chest. It passed, but wow. Had some bay food mush last night and it was OK. SO lots to learn! Slow and easy does it, I suppose.

I'm with you Bob. I feel so blessed to have insurance cover my procedure and to have my surgery locally. I have all the support I need right here in town. For those who travelled for surgery, can you still call with questions at any time? Or do you have to find local support for that?

I can call or email any of Dr. Aceves staff at any time and if they aren't there to respond (i.e, late at night) they respond the following morning.

31 lbs. in 8 weeks is great - good Lord how much did you think you would lose? I am 8 weeks out and have lost 34 and am tickled at that -- You have to remember the weight didn't come on overnight and it's not going to come off overnight either -- this is not a SPRINT - it is a marathon and steady wins the race...so be patient and as long as the scale keeps moving down, be HAPPY!

As for the food/drink issues, I totally relate to what you are saying. Just keep keeping at it and you'll find things that go down easier and taste better than others ... it's a day-by-day ordeal!

Good luck!

In the beginning, I was only able to eat a few bites of tuna salad, egg salad, or chicken salad. I tried to eat 2-3 bites as often as I could manage it. It was hard.

The best advice I can give you is to try to find a Protein drink that you like. There are a lot out there, and a lot you can order online. You can ask anyone which they like, and there are samples you can order to try things so you aren' stuck with a bunch of something you don't like.

When you aren't sipping on a Protein Drink, sip Water or crystal lite or whatever you can manage.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
