Hi all,

Its absolutely fabulous to read everyone's success stories!! But now my expectations for myself are off the roof! I know that everyone loses differently.

Im due for surgery on Aug 13th and I want to set up realistic goals for myself. I have a BMI of 33. I weigh 211 and GW is 130.

Just so I don't get disheartened incase I don't lose as much.. How much do you think I can expect to lose in say.. the first 10 weeks?

You are very right about everyone loses differently, I had much more weight then you to lose (still do) but in 7 weeks i lost 53 lbs. . . i was so happy when that happened! All together in 8 months i've lost 107 - 110 lbs. . .not too shabby, but i've had a stall for 3 1/2 months which drove me crazy! but i never gained any weight at all and that was most important to me! good luck you'll do very well!

Hello my name is Melissa. I had vsg on July 16th, 2010 and so far have lost 26 pounds. I am happy so far with the results but I was expecting more. I currently weigh 190.5 and hope to get down to 130 or 140 by January. Good luck with your surgery.

Hi, my BMI was not as high either so my weight loss has been slower. I only had to do one week of liquids then mushies so I didn't loose as much right away. Had my surgery May 17. May I lost 20lbs (included pre-op diet); June 5 lbs, July 3 lbs; August 4 lbs; but only lost that after I started exercising. I probably eat more than some people, generally 900 - 1000 cal. But if I eat less I get really tired. I keep track now of everything I eat on my I phone app "nutrition" Great app, keeps track of Water and exercise; it also lists calories, fat, sat fat, salt, carbs, Fiber, and Protein. I do make sure I get my 60 gms of protein in every day. But it has been slower that I thought it would be, but I feel so much better, and I think it is healthy to loose it slow. Every pound I loose I know will not be back.

Good luck!

I will get to goal much quicker than 'my goal date'. Today is four months since I had surgery and I've lost 72 lbs - I'm six lbs from my surgeons goal....my goal date that I had in my mind was New Years Eve!! I'll be at goal in no time, I've lost six lbs since Oct. 1st. For some reason I am losing quicker the past four to six weeks, or so it seems. I was just reading a post by Mini Me on another thread and she reached her goal and was a little below within 8 months! She had a lower BMI as well. Everyone is different though. My caloric intake is between 550 and 750 per day and I am getting 55 - 70 grams of Protein, all food, no supplements. No hair issues either, knock on wood!!

NtvTxn,

How do you get your Protein in on 550 & 750 per day. Any recommendations? And congrats on your progress.

Hi SocialKelly - here are some examples of what I was eating, and what I still eat a good deal of the time! For Breakfast several days out of the week I will eat a half cup of 1% cottage cheese, I call it the Breakfast of champions, 13 grams of protein! Other days I'll have a scrambled egg, 6 grams and add a half oz of 2% grated cheddar or LF Farmers cheese, 3 grams, for a total of 9 grams of Protein. When I got a little further out, I would eat 2 eggs, 12 grams, without cheese, or 1 egg and one egg white, 9 grams with a fourth oz of cheese, 1.5 grams of Protein. I weigh or measure everything here at the house!! Some times I'll eat a half a low fat English muffin 2.5 gr., with a slice of American cheese 3 gr. For lunch, I love solid white Albacore tuna. I add a boiled egg for an extra 6 gr of protein. A serving is 1/4 cup, 13 grams of protein, then you add the additional grams because of the egg, for a total of 15 grams per serving! I add 2.5 TB of lite mayo, I DO measure the mayo to know exactly how much is in there. I add a sweet pickle or two, or a small dill pickle for extra flavor. I seldom eat bread here at home, but I LOVE the tuna salad on Special K crackers, anywhere from 8 - 12 with a fourth cup fills me up. Earlier in my surgery I could only eat 6 - 8 crackers. If we have any left over baked chicken, I'll eat that, or any kind of meat....but to get in enough protein, I need 2 oz. Also, I keep a bag of shrimp here and will steam the shrimp and eat 2 oz of shrimp. That is 11 grams of protein. You need to weigh it AFTER steaming. Eventually you can eat 2.5 oz and that will get you even more protein!! Shrimp is easier to eat than chicken or beef! At night I'd eat 2 oz of meat....pork tenderloin has a LOT of protein....and then fill in with just a little whatever else, a TB of a veggie and I'd almost ALWAY have an eighth of a cup of cottage cheese to get in a little more protein. I really never snacked in the afternoon, if I wanted something to eat, I'd just grab a few Special K crackers. I STILL keep a food log, and I do it religiously. If I saw I wasn't going to get enough protein, I did something to make sure I would. There were days, a FEW, that I did not, but they were few and far between! I hope this helps...a little!!!! Oh...and thank you!! :)

So I went for my 3 week post op appointment and my surgeon told me I have to stay on full liquid phase for two more weeks!!! Pretty disappointed. Also, only lost 8.2 pound in the 3 weeks post op...I know my bmi is only 35 but still!!! Very frustrated. I am 5' 6" started at 220 and went down to 212 during preop diet and now I,m at 203.8 3 weeks post op. goal is 150 lbs ...anyone had similar experience and succeeded. Would love to hear

I am worried that I will quickly become discouraged if I don't lose regularly. Even though I am a low bmi

I am 30 days out and have lost 19# post op and 5 pre op. I stalled at 202# in week 2 post op for 6 days, but have been lousing around 3-4# a week again. I am very glad for this thread I was worried that I was the only one lousing slowly :)

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
