What do you want to do that you couldn't do before the sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I am sure we all have our personal reasons for wanting to lose weight and get the sleeve. And, I am sure there are certain things we all want to do once we reach goal that we have held back from doing because of our weight. I personally find those goals/dreams to be very motivating, and like to see some of the things that motivate others to lose weight, besides the obvious one of better health.

For me, I want to be able to go to the beach without feeling ashamed and embarrassed. I want to lose the huge cover-up that I always where when we go. Another thing I have wanted to do my whole adult life is to shop at Victoria's Secret. I have never been able to due to my size. But, once I reach goal, I want to buy tons of sexy bras, panties and nighties.

So, share with us, what do you want to do?

I want to wear high heels without them being small torture devices on my feet

I want a guy to do a double take when I walk by without it being because I am fat but because I am HOT

I want to wear thigh high stockings without them rolling over the fat between my legs

I want to wear a shirt and skinny jeans without a muffin top

I want to feel confident and sexy with my husband again. I want to be the sexy diva he sees when he looks longly at me and says that he wants me sexually. I want to not respond to the previous with an internal "why?". I want to sit down comfortably and not have the stomach fat pushing up my boobs on my chest.

Don't misunderstand I want the "feel comfortable in a bathing suit" goal too... and cute clothes... oh I miss that. But first and foremost I want to feel comfortable in my own skin again and not feel like I am wearing some twisted big girl suit.

Geepers, I lost my weight with the band, and I still have no desire to shop at Vicky Secrets.

There is a post on lbt that is "why does skinny not fix it all?" I can relate to that. I am not skinny, but I am not nearly as fat anymore. I wish I could just feel good about myself, but I don't think at any weight I ever will.

I want to wear a size 14 sexy black dress I bought years ago (but never got a chance to wear- this was before I started packing on weight). I want to wear my old clothes and high heels (most are size 16, some are 14). I want to go clothes shopping and actually love to try on clothes. I want to be in public and actually feel equal to my hot husband- then I can look at all those skinny bitches and know I too am a skinny bitch that looks as good as her man. I want to go hiking and not feel like I'm going to die from just two steps. I want to go horse back riding and not feel like I might break the poor horsey's back.

There are so many things I want to do; things I was able to do before I got oober fat, and there are things I'd like to do that I've never been able to do. I have never worn a bikini. I have never allowed my husband to carry me. Its those things that makes me truly look forward to the future.

I want to be able to go the movies and not have to stress myself silly that someone is going to sit next to me so i have to hold my arms crossed the whole movie. thank god im not traveling anymore cause that was a pain too. 20 hours squishing myself into a small seat and cramping my arms to not make my neighbour uncomfortable because of my fat! that would be nice. pffft!!!!

would also love to go through the $5 bargin tables at normal size peoples shops. buy something because i could!! never done that before.

swimmers dont really worry me that much.

heres one for you girls.... not have to pay $90 for a bra!!! I cant buy off the shelf... i have to go into a store in the city called big girls dont cry anymore.... all underwear for the larger girl...with the larger price tag of cource!

I just want to lose weight to be healthy again, no blood pressure pills, of which I was taking 5 per day that were related to BP.

I want to wear a size 38/40 pants and a lg or med shirt again.

I dont want my stomach anymore---that way I look better...

I want my boobs back. I didn't have much to begin with, but managed to lose whatever I did have. Can't we pick where we want it to come off?

Now that would be a great option, to pick our primary areas that we want to lose from!

I want to be able to fasten a seat belt in an airplane without being uncomfortable. I want to be able to wear something sexy for my husband that doesn't have to be bought at a specialty store. I want to run on the beach after my son in the sand without being utterly fatigued.

I really want to look in the mirror and not be ashamed of what I have let myself become.

Hi, I loved reading all these. I wanted my back to stop hurting after walking very much, and for the pain in my leg that felt like a hot poker to stop--Guess what all those things happened. I had just retired for the local School District and I wanted retirement to be fun. Boy has it ever. I have a business where I teach First Aid & CPR classes and I had two ladies in my class who thought I was a different person than had taught the class before because I had lost so much weight they didn't recognize me they said--now that really made my day!

We also have 4 Street Rods that we take to Car Shows and Cruise them. That requires a lot of walking and for the first time in many years, I can walk without my back hurting and I NO longer have that pain in my leg--I feel great!

I wanted all new clothes and to be able to fit into a size 12--well I have done better than that, I fit into size 10 and sometimes depending on who makes them size 8. I still have about 20 pounds to lose. I laugh now because when I find clothes on sale sometimes it seems like all they have are the larger sizes.

I found a wonderful man about 4 years ago who fell in love with me when I was fat and he loved and adored me then. He was able to see beyong the outside of my body and see who the "real me" was. Now it is fabulous seeing him look at me. He loves me just the same only I am a new version of who he fell in love with. I am still the same inside and that is who he fell in love with. I truly have it ALL. So for me this part of my life is everything I ever wanted. We are engaged and may get married one day, but we are happy with our life just the way it is now.

NEVER give up on yourself and having what you want in life. I am living proof of it. I was single for 15 years after being married for 21 years, so it can happen if you don't give up on yourself. I am almost 64 years and found out what makes me happy. I did this for ME AND NO ONE ELSE. It was time to lose the weight I was ready and I found what worked best for me. I love going to buy new clothes and it feels good to put them on and be able to zip them up! When people call me skinny I am surprised "Oh that is me they are talking about." I never feel or think of myself as skinny. I like to think of myself has healthy and thin now.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
